Book Description
Millie micro nano pico Book 7 is very special: most of the questions Millie asks the electrons in this book were suggested by children who read the previous stories. Here is what they wanted to know: Do electrons have mums and dads? How are they born? How old are they? How long do they live for? Do they grow up? As well as answering these questions, the electrons introduce Millie to static electricity, radioactivity and antimatter. Many thanks to Danielle, Josh, Mia, Tamzin and Tylah from Raumati Beach School, New Zealand, for helping Millie in this adventure. Would you like to help Millie too? Send your questions to Millie's website millie.kolorato.com or to Facebook www.facebook/milliemicronanopico. If Millie uses one of your questions in a new story, she will send you a certificate.

Book Description
The aim of this book is twofold: to provide an introduction for newcomers to state of the art computer simulation techniques in space plasma physics and an overview of current developments. Computer simulation has reached a stage where it can be a highly useful tool for guiding theory and for making predictions of space plasma phenomena, ranging from microscopic to global scales. The various articles are arranged, as much as possible, according to the - derlying simulation technique, starting with the technique that makes the least number of assumptions: a fully kinetic approach which solves the coupled set of Maxwell’s equations for the electromagnetic ?eld and the equations of motion for a very large number of charged particles (electrons and ions) in this ?eld. Clearly, this is also the computationally most demanding model. Therefore, even with present day high performance computers, it is the most restrictive in terms of the space and time domain and the range of particle parameters that can be covered by the simulation experiments. It still makes sense, therefore, to also use models, which due to their simp- fying assumptions, seem less realistic, although the e?ect of these assumptions on the outcome of the simulation experiments needs to be carefully assessed.

Book Description
An essential textbook on the mathematical methods used in geophysics and space physics Graduate students in the natural sciences—including not only geophysics and space physics but also atmospheric and planetary physics, ocean sciences, and astronomy—need a broad-based mathematical toolbox to facilitate their research. In addition, they need to survey a wider array of mathematical methods that, while outside their particular areas of expertise, are important in related ones. While it is unrealistic to expect them to develop an encyclopedic knowledge of all the methods that are out there, they need to know how and where to obtain reliable and effective insights into these broader areas. Here at last is a graduate textbook that provides these students with the mathematical skills they need to succeed in today's highly interdisciplinary research environment. This authoritative and accessible book covers everything from the elements of vector and tensor analysis to ordinary differential equations, special functions, and chaos and fractals. Other topics include integral transforms, complex analysis, and inverse theory; partial differential equations of mathematical geophysics; probability, statistics, and computational methods; and much more. Proven in the classroom, Mathematical Methods for Geophysics and Space Physics features numerous exercises throughout as well as suggestions for further reading. Provides an authoritative and accessible introduction to the subject Covers vector and tensor analysis, ordinary differential equations, integrals and approximations, Fourier transforms, diffusion and dispersion, sound waves and perturbation theory, randomness in data, and a host of other topics Features numerous exercises throughout Ideal for students and researchers alike An online illustration package is available to professors

Book Description
Many physicists and astrophysicists are searching for information about the highest energy and therefore rarest cosmic rays. This has motivated efforts to instrument larger and larger volumes of material, leading to a resurgence of radio detection techniques. Particle-astrophysicists from around the world gathered to share recent results, simulations, hardware techniques, and historical reminiscences.
