Book Description
A comprehensive analysis of merger outcomes based on all empirical studies, with an assessment of the effectiveness of antitrust policy toward mergers. In recent decades, antitrust investigations and cases targeting mergers—including those involving Google, Ticketmaster, and much of the domestic airline industry—have reshaped industries and changed business practices profoundly. And yet there has been a relative dearth of detailed evaluations of the effects of mergers and the effectiveness of merger policy. In this book, John Kwoka, a noted authority on industrial organization, examines all reliable empirical studies of the effect of specific mergers and develops entirely new information about the policies and remedies of antitrust agencies regarding these mergers. Combined with data on outcomes, this policy information enables analysis of, and creates new insights into, mergers, merger policies, and the effectiveness of remedies in preventing anticompetitive outcomes. After an overview of mergers, merger policy, and a common approach to merger analysis, Kwoka offers a detailed analysis of the studied mergers, relevant policies, and chosen remedies. Kwoka finds, first and foremost, that most of the studied mergers resulted in competitive harm, usually in the form of higher product prices but also with respect to various non-price outcomes. Other important findings include the fact that joint ventures and code sharing arrangements do not result in such harm and that policies intended to remedy mergers—especially conduct remedies—are not generally effective in restraining price increases. The book's uniquely comprehensive analysis advances our understanding of merger decisions and policies, suggests policy improvements for competition agencies and remedies, and points the way to future research.

Book Description
The need to merge churches is growing ever more crucial as congregations assess how to thrive in cultural diversity and ever-changing times. Every denomination faces the urgency to shift from maintenance to mission, and from survival to renewal. Church Mergers offers churches of all sizes and traditions practical advice on how to merge successfully. Authors Thomas G. Bandy and Page M. Brooks draw on decades of experience to illustrate why and how missional mergers are possible. Church Mergers guides congregational leaders and regional planners through the process of successful mergers. It shares the stories of four churches in the merger process, explaining the steps to assess their situations, build trust, and discern vision. The book offers guidance to assess the potential for merger, explore contextual relevancy and lifestyle compatibility, overcome internal and external obstacles, define strategic priorities, create new boards, build leadership teams, combine assets, and more. Church Mergers shows that a faithful, healthy, missional merger is possible, and it illustrates that the whole can indeed be greater than the sum of its parts.

Book Description
If you have read other books about love that have fallen short, read this book. Mapping the Terrain of the Heart is an eloquent guide through love's diverse landscapes that provides a whole new way to think about love relationships. Both descriptive and prescriptive, it is a book for anyone looking to experience a committed relationship full of passion and tenderness. In the labyrinth of love, every one of us has his or her own inner map. Psychologists Goldbart and Wallin lead us along the metaphorical superhighways on the map of love by charting six easily grasped skills—the six capacities of love—that are all necessary to a long-term, stable love relationship: the capacities for erotic involvement, for merging, for idealization, for integration, for "refinding," and for self-transcendence. The authors demonstrate in a very practical, hands-on way how individuals and couples can use these capacities to work on breaking down their usual defenses and grow toward a deeper understanding and connection. In defending ourselves against disappointment in love, we frequently—and often unknowingly—throw up obstacles, create roadblocks, and take detours around these six capacities. We think such detours will take us where we want to go in a relationship, but too often they do not. Goldbart and Wallin's sophisticated but accessible approach—using case studies and practical pointers throughout—based on solid psycho-analytic theory while creating a completely new model for love relationships that also makes intuitive sense. Mapping the Terrain of the Heart offers a comprehensive psychology of love that maps out the paths to a successful relationship and shows how both individuals and couples can progress toward that ever-elusive goal of lasting and passionate love.

Book Description
Just as mergers and acquisitions begin to take off once again, this book reminds us that the emotional side of business is often at the heart of success and failure. With a terrific mix of case studies and in-depth conceptual thinking, Managing Emotions in Mergers and Acquisitions addresses the most fundamental of all issues in M&As how and why people sometimes disrupt the best merger plans, simply because they are, well, people. Sydney Finkelstein, Professor of Strategy and Leadership at the Tuck School at Dartmouth College, and author of Why Smart Executives Fail This is a very welcome addition to our knowledge on M&A process. This is an in-depth study on emotions, how these are effected due to M&A activity in two firms and how they influence the process itself. It helps us to understand, what emotions are? How we can deal with them? And, Why do M&As so often fail? It offers state-of-the-art knowledge on this complex phenomenon. The four cases present in depth and extremely rich insight into how emotions actually work and influence the success/failure in M&A process. In conclusion, it is a timely and innovative book which is a must read for anyone interested in mergers and acquisitions. Pervez Ghauri, University of Manchester, UK Research suggests that an increasing number of people experience organisational changes such as mergers and acquisitions as highly emotional life events. Indeed, given that, as the authors prove, 70% of all mergers and acquisitions fail to reach their initial goals largely because of neglected people issues, it is a must for every manager and M&A researcher to understand the emotional side of such change processes. This fascinating book explains how managerial behaviour and communication styles influence the emotions of employees and affect their readiness to contribute to a successful post-merger integration. It combines emotion theories from other disciplines with recent M&A findings, and offers practical implications through illustrative case studies. Academics and practitioners will find the combination of management literature with psychology and sociology literature of great interest.

Book Description
Just like a bee that gathers the sweetest of nectar from various flowers, this book of empowering thoughts, aimed towards the elevation of human consciousness, has gathered wisdom hidden in thousands of spiritual traditions in the vast garden of human thought ever since the Homo Sapiens looked up at the heavens and questioned the full extent of his self-awareness. Since the advent of Renaissance, the human spirit has been seeking the nature of reality beyond the dogmatic diktats of limited perceptions as envisaged by various belief systems. These belief systems had their roots in archaic, magical, mythological consciousness of man. Today, science, especially quantum physics, cosmology and discoveries in evolutionary biology and cognitive sciences, as well as the in-depth knowledge in other fields, such as Jungian psychology, interpretation through allegorical synthesis of mythology by stalwarts such as Joseph Campbell, has opened up the flood gates of information, which enables us to construct a wholly new level of understanding. When this knowledge is mapped on to ancient scriptures and sacred texts, a revelatory platform is provided to probe the deeper nature of reality and our own spirituality. This book is the beehive of spiritual nectar which is characterized by its non-dual, undifferentiated attributes provided for your nourishment.
