Johnstone Country. Family First. For generations, the Jensens have struggled to build their home, their land, and their dreams. But now the family is forced to fight fire with fire, bullet by bullet, blood for blood . . . GOLD MINE MASSACRE For Smoke and his daughter Denny, life on the Sugarloaf Ranch is more valuable than all the gold in the world. Which works out fine, since all the gold mines in Big Rock were squeezed dry years ago. Even so, that won’t stop a pair of businessmen from the East from trying to squeeze out a little more. One of them has developed a newfangled method for extracting gold—something called “hydraulics” and they’ve bought up all the old mines to do it. The other is the son of legendary gunfighter Frank Morgan, and Denny thinks he’s awfully handsome. Smoke isn’t sure what to think of these would-be gold diggers. Especially when the handsome one triggers a rivalry with Denny’s off-and-on beau, a deputy U.S. marshal. And then they hires a small army of gunfighters to protect their mines from sabotage . . . The Jensons can smell trouble brewing from a mile away. And when it involves gold, guns, and love, it’s more than just trouble. It’s a massacre waiting to happen . . . Live Free. Read Hard.

Book Description
In 1912 a thin line of Russian soldiers, confronted by a large crowd of gold miners on strike for several weeks, reacted with fear and anger. At their officers’ orders, they opened fire, shooting five hundred unarmed protestors. The event reverberated across Russia. The Lena goldfields massacre can be viewed from several distinct viewpoints, each presenting a contrasting story. Author Michael Melancon avoids prematurely picking a “right” way of looking at the massacre. Instead, he explores all aspects of the incident, from the despair of the miners at the poor conditions they faced, to the calculations and priorities of the mining entrepreneurs and state officials, and even the rationale of the soldiers who pulled the triggers. The Lena Goldfields Massacre and the Crisis of the Late Tsarist State will appeal to anyone interested in labor relations, in revolutionary movements, and in transitions associated with modernization. Its comparative framework will be helpful for generalists and Europeanists. It will also provide food for thought for those who seek a carefully researched examination of Russian society during the early twentieth century.

Book Description
"Massacre Gold" is a fictionalized story based upon the massacre, in Arizona, of the Peralta Miners; and the origin of the Lost Dutchman Mine's gold. In 1848, in the Office of El Presidente Santa Anna of Mexico, a deal was struck between El Presidente and Don Miguel Peralta of Arizpe, Sonora. The agreement provided funding and military support for a large expedition to proceed northward into the area of Sonora, which eventually would become southern Arizona. The expedition's mission: to retrieve as much remaining gold from the old mines in the north as possible, before negotiations regarding the Gadsden Purchase could be completed. These mines were originally controlled by Spanish Missionaries over a hundred years earlier; and later, by the Peralta family under a younger Don Miguel Peralta. The trek through the desert was long and difficult. The event is portrayed from the positions of both the Peralta Miners as well as the Yavapai and Apache tribes. The lives of the personnel of this enterprise became interwoven as the huge caravan moved toward the old mines. Don Miguel Peralta - the Sonoran aristocrat, Manuel Peralta - his son, El Capitan Garces - Captain of Cavalry, U-Day-Ah - the Yavapai girl, O-hi-Cama - the Yavapai warrior, Nann-Chaddi - the Yavapai chieftain, and Lieutenant Diego DaVia - the very capable soldier; all move inevitably toward the final tragedy at "Massacre Ground." The story continues to this day in the legend of the Lost Dutchman Mine in Arizona. And yes, I have been there.

Book Description
The massacre at Oradour-sur-Glane on June 10, 1944, is recognized yearly throughout France with the same profundity as the attacks on Pearl Harbor and the Twin Towers in the United States. The Oradour Massacre is taught in school in France and the anniversary is commemorated every year. Today, Oradour is a destination for people interested in one of the most horrific events in French history. Each year, the devastated village attracts over 300,000 visitors worldwide. On June 8, 1944, 15,000 men and 209 tanks and self-propelled guns of the Das Reich 2 Panzer Division rolled out of Montauban in southern France and began an ordered 450-mile march that ended at Normandy more than two weeks later. While in Montauban, a battalion from Das Reich surrounded Oradour-sur-Glane, massacred 642 men, women, and children, and razed the village to the ground. Das Reich became one of the most dreadful legends in the history of France and World War II. This is the story of the Oradour massacre and its real cause: how two SS officers—a general and a major—“acquired” one million dollars’ worth of gold ingots while encamped at nearby Montauban, and how that led to the massacre in 1944.

Book Description
Rushmore McKenzie, a retired St. Paul policeman and unexpected millionaire, often works as an unlicensed P.I., doing favors as it suits him. When graduate students Ivy Flynn and Josh Berglund show up with a story about $8 million in missing stolen gold from the ‘30s, McKenzie is intrigued. In the early 20th century, St. Paul, Minnesota was an open city —a place where gangsters could come and stay unmolested by the local authorities. Frank "Jelly" Nash was suspected of masterminding a daring robbery of gold bars in 1933, but, before he could unload it, he was killed in the Kansas City Massacre. His gold, they believe, is still somewhere in St. Paul. But they aren't the only ones looking. So are a couple of two-bit thugs, a woman named Heavenly, a local big-wig, and others. When Berglund is shot dead outside of Ivy's apartment, the treasure hunt turns unexpectedly deadly. In this hard-boiled mystery from David Housewright, Mac McKenzie is looking for more than a legendary stash from seventy-five years ago---he's looking for a killer and the long hidden truth behind Jelly's gold.

Suddenly, he finds his ordinary life in Chicago uprooted, landing himself on a Native American reservation where his grandfather built a life as a well-respected veterinarian. The reservation is a far cry from the modern civilization Cummings is used to. He doesn’t quite fit in, but the desert landscape has its own alluring charm. And the Apache people have so much to teach him about their culture and his own. As Cummings begins to unravel his family history, he begins to understand the injustices the Apache Indians have endured at the hands of the American government. He also learned of a lost gold treasure that many have hunted but never found. All other explorers were left for the vultures to find. The gold could change history, certainly could change Cummings’ life forever… but can he find it and live to tell the tale?
