Book Description
What happens when cultural memory becomes a commodity? Who owns the memory? In The Memory Marketplace, Emilie Pine explores how memory is performed both in Ireland and abroad by considering the significant body of contemporary Irish theatre that contends with its own culture and history. Analyzing examples from this realm of theatre, Pine focuses on the idea of witnesses, both as performers on stage and as members of the audience. Whose memories are observed in these transactions, and how and why do performances prioritize some memories over others? What does it mean to create, rehearse, perform, and purchase the theatricalization of memory? The Memory Marketplace shows this transaction to be particularly fraught in the theatricalization of traumatic moments of cultural upheaval, such as the child sexual abuse scandal in Ireland. In these performances, the role of empathy becomes key within the marketplace dynamic, and Pine argues that this empathy shapes the kinds of witnesses created. The complexities and nuances of this exchange—subject and witness, spectator and performer, consumer and commodified—provide a deeper understanding of the crucial role theatre plays in shaping public understanding of trauma, memory, and history.

Book Description
The path from single market to economic union is a continuing, and controversial, story; raising questions about the present and future regulation, structures, and purpose of economic union within the broader objectives of the EU legal and political order. This collection focuses on the evolution and regulation of the EU as an economic union, in tribute to the scholarship of the late Professor John A Usher. The process of treaty reform within the EU has now reached fruition and attention is being re-focused on substantive aspects of EU law and policy. The essays in the collection consider the EU internal market in its broadest sense: the fundamental free movement provisions remain at the core, but the concept of the transnational market must also accommodate competing interests to which the EU is committed but the implications of which can nonetheless distort, and thus need to be carefully balanced within, the basic free trade framework (for example, intellectual property rights and the protection of innovation, and also the implementation of social policy objectives). The collection also situates the market in its broader politico-economic context. The global economic climate remains precarious and questions about optimal financial and fiscal regulation, and monetary stability, remain critically significant, especially in a transnational context given the degree of inter-dependency generated by the EU integration project. The essays in the collection offer in-depth reflections on different 'parts' of this evolving transnational economic union, linked together as a whole by cross-cutting thematic concerns about competence and regulation, and about where and how the economic law of the EU fits within the broader integration narrative. Together, these different elements of the proposed collection demonstrate the different facets of EU economic law and its regulation; and this approach, in turn, reflects the extraordinary breadth of John Usher's remarkable contribution to scholarship.

Book Description
This book examines the long memory characteristics in the volatility of the Indian stock market, the Indian exchange rates and the Indian banking sector. This book also reviews the chain of approaches to estimate the long memory parameter. The long memory characteristics of the financial time series are widely studied and have implications for various economics and finance theories. The most important financial implication is related to the violation of the weak-form of market efficiency which encourages the traders, investors and portfolio managers to develop models for making predictions and to construct and implement speculative trading and investment strategies. In an efficient market, the price of an asset should follow a random walk process in which the price change is unaffected by ist lagged price changes and has no memory.

Book Description
In "The Memory Market: Trading Lives in a Society of Remembrance," author [Aaron D. Lord] takes readers on a thought-provoking journey into a world where memories are not just personal recollections but commodities to be bought, sold, and manipulated. Set in a society where memory transactions shape identities, relationships, and even the course of history, this book explores the intricate web of ethical dilemmas, societal consequences, and deeply personal stories that emerge from the intersection of memory and commerce. As mnemonic corporations capitalize on the human desire to preserve, alter, or erase memories, individuals grapple with the moral implications of memory transactions. From the poignant tale of a grieving widow who seeks solace in erasing painful memories to the gripping narrative of an investigative journalist uncovering the dark underbelly of the memory market, each chapter offers a glimpse into the complexities of memory trading and its impact on human lives. Through vivid storytelling and incisive analysis, "The Memory Market" raises profound questions about the nature of memory, identity, and personal agency in a world where memories can be bought and sold. It challenges readers to confront their own assumptions about memory, autonomy, and the ethics of technological advancement. With its gripping narrative and timely exploration of pressing ethical issues, "The Memory Market" is a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of technology, society, and the human experience. Engaging, thought-provoking, and ultimately hopeful, this book offers a compelling vision of a future where memory trading forces us to confront the true value of our most precious recollections.
