This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1842 edition. Excerpt: ... Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus sailh the Loud God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses (or mouths) of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog, and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamon, gog. A Few things, in this prophecy, may to us be dark and intricate, not because God designed in his revelation to make it so, to deceive, puzzle or perplex his children, in the study of his holy word;--far be it from me to impute such motives to my heavenly Father;--but on account of the translators' retaining certain words, or names of places, or things, in the original language, which might have been used intelligently when Ezekiel prophesied of them in their common tongue, but which, as it respects us, have become obsolete. Yet I think when I read this passage, which at first view may appear dark, with other prophecies of like import, and compare scripture with scripture, I find not only much instruction, but comfort and consolation in believing that in God's light I can see light. And even in the history of modern times, I can behold the prophet's eye calmly surveying scenes, (on which we are looking, or may look, ) with a keen vision and clear perception, which on the score of human reason can never be accounted for, only by supposing something more than mortal had given to the prophet's eye powers of perceiving the end from the beginning; which fixes upon our minds a solemn conviction, that the ken of the prophet once looked on scenes, which he has described in the common.

Book Description
Apocalypse Secrets: Baha'i Interpretation of the Book of Revelation with 60 illustrations is a fresh provocative Parallel Interpretation of the Apocalypse or Book of Revelation. The author, John Able MD, is a retired intensive-care physician. He uses Baha'i Writings that interpret parts of the Apocalypse to decode it as a global tale of three millennia now passing through four centuries of the events of religious end-times. It is a tale of the struggles of seven Empires and seven Faiths, of their materialism and militarism, and the resulting mess into which the world is now crescendoing furiously and fast. These events center on the apocalyptic war waging between the Revelation beast of Muslim Militarism that drives the Middle East and the Revelation Babylon of Malignant Materialism that drives the Christian West. The fall of both is inevitable, with economic crises spiraling the globe into a paralytic depression, now triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath. The good news is that spiritual economics will arise and our painful end times into wonderful beginning times. Apocalypse Secrets is a profound and astonishing work in biblical exegesis-a real tour de force as a strikingly original, scholarly, remarkably holistic, comprehensive, and rationally consistent interpretation of the Book of Revelation. Able intelligently probes and penetrates many of the great religious mysteries, and cogently argues that Revelation extends far beyond its strictly Middle East Christic origin. It transcends religious dogma, bridges religious faiths, and explains nineteen hundred years of troubling events in Christianity and Islam with amazing clarity and prescience. It is amazingly detailed and thorough. The author's stylish rhetoric is colorful and alive and his book beautifully crafted and researched, making for an engaging, enlightening, and thought-provoking read. In the end, a scholarly Translation Section decodes original Greek and Hebrew sources. Its strikingly lively translation sticks to the intention of the Greek original. It provides an authoritative base for his distinctive Parallel Interpretation. For anyone striving to penetrate the hidden secrets of the Apocalypse, Apocalypse Secrets is a must reading. This exceedingly interesting book will influence many future works about the subject and become a template of understanding and peace for all. After they read it, people who are interested in prophecy will never look at the Book of Revelation the same again. Visit www.apocalypse.info for more.

Book Description
In light of the curious compulsion to stress Protestant dominance in America's past, this book takes an unorthodox look at religious history in America. Rather than focusing on the usual mainstream Protestant churches--Episcopal, Congregationalist, Methodist, Baptist, and Lutheran--Moore instead turns his attention to the equally important "outsiders" in the American religious experience and tests the realities of American religious pluralism against their history in America. Through separate but interrelated chapters on seven influential groups of "outsiders"--the Mormons, Catholics, Jews, Christian Scientists, Millennialists, 20th-century Protestant Fundamentalists, and the African-American churches--Moore shows that what was going on in mainstream churches may not have been the "normal" religious experience at all, and that many of these "outside" groups embodied values that were, in fact, quintessentially American.

Book Description
As the sacred text of a modern religious movement of global reach, The Book of Mormon has undeniable historical significance. That significance, this volume shows, is inextricable from the intricacy of its literary form and the audacity of its historical vision. This landmark collection brings together a diverse range of scholars in American literary studies and related fields to definitively establish The Book of Mormon as an indispensable object of Americanist inquiry not least because it is, among other things, a form of Americanist inquiry in its own right--a creative, critical reading of "America." Drawing on formalist criticism, literary and cultural theory, book history, religious studies, and even anthropological field work, Americanist Approaches to The Book of Mormon captures as never before the full dimensions and resonances of this "American Bible."

Book Description
"The End is near! This phrase, so well known in the contemporary United States, invokes images of manic self-proclaimed prophets of doom standing on street corners shouting their warnings and predictions to amused or indifferent passers-by. However, such proclamations have long been a feature of the American cultural landscape, and were never exclusively the domain of wild-eyed fanatics. A Dream of Judgment Day describes the origins and development of American apocalypticism and millennialism from the beginnings of English colonization of North America in the early 1600s through the formation of the United States and its travails in the nineteenth century. It explores the reasons why varieties of millennialism are an essential component of American exceptionalism, and focuses upon the nation's early history to better establish how millennialism and apocalypticism are the keys to understanding early American history and religious identity. This sweeping history of eschatological thought in early America encompasses not just traditional and non-traditional Christian beliefs in the end of the world, but also how American Indians and African Americans have likewise been influenced by, and expressed, those beliefs in unique ways"--
