Book Description
Excerpt from Lyrics and Idylls: With Other Poems Long are years of waiting, when lovers' hearts are bound By words that hold in life and death, and last the half-world round Long, long for him who wanders far and strives with all his main, But crueller yet for her who bides at home and hides her pain And lone are the homes of New England. "The idea of love – divine, between people, for ourselves – has always deeply touched and fascinated me. As a highly intuitive, but rational person, I began observing my own and other people's emotions early on in my childhood, and putting it down on paper. I started at the age of 10, and I never stopped." – Jessie JasenJessie Jasen delivers her spectacular debut song collection 'New World – Songs Of Love And Spirit.'Written in the course of twenty-two years, Jasen's observations of love and the human condition are a testimony to the writer's adventurous life, and her unusually emotional spirit. Book Description
S. J. Harrison sets out to sketch one answer to a key question in Latin literary history: why did the period c.39-19 BC in Rome produce such a rich range of complex poetical texts, above all in the work of the famous poets Vergil and Horace? Harrison argues that one central aspect of this literary flourishing was the way in which different poetic genres or kinds (pastoral, epic, tragedy, etc.) interacted with each other and that that interaction itself was a prominent literary subject. He explores this issue closely through detailed analysis of passages of the two poets' works between these dates. Harrison opens with an outline of generic theory ancient and modern as a basis for his argument, suggesting how different poetic genres and their partial presence in each other can be detected in the Latin poetry of the first century BC.
