Theirs is a valuable, learned, and important work; but Mr. Raine, in his preface, points out, with his usual clearness, the distinction between the object of their work, and that which is the aim of the present volumes. He states, that their work does not profess to be a history of the Church of England, or any part of it. It has nothing to do with what are called the times of the archbishops or of any of them.
