Book Description
Excerpt from Live Coals, or Faces From the Fire But our range is not at all times thus contracted. It becomes, annually, more or less discursive from the range of the grate. That, however, is only, as with the cricket, when the hearth is cold, all but in the kitchen, and when Life in the Coals, whether high or low, is gone below stairs. Then, our double of the hearth still followed, our haunts continue as remote as ever from the noise and traffic of the world. We live amongst the things of beauty, the joys for ever, of the flowery garden, sunny hedgerow, wood and wild. In our summer saunterings, as in our winter sittings, warmth and brightness are, as with the cricket, the elements we seek; and we also love dearly (the cricket is an acquisitive animal) to pick up something by the way. Our gatherings collected in seasons past were Episodes of Insect Life. Since these were scattered to the winds, - not, we hope, without some fruition, summer and winter, seed - time and harvest, have come and gone times over. Yet here we are again (praise to the God of seasons and of all they bring!) at our darling fire-side. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Coals of Fire Perhaps only a few persons in Great Britain could have been found. Who did not know the name of the oldest woman suffragist in the kingdom, the friend in her girlhood of John Stuart Mill, a power yet, in age and blindness, in the councils Oi the movement. She stood, very old, bowed, sightless, with her sunny, gentle face turned vaguely, smilingly, toward the great, full auditorium, while they greeted her, clapping, cheering, calling her name. And when they stopped a tremulous voice came quite suddenly into the stillness. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Preacher Peter is wakened by strange noises on the roof. To his dismay he finds there are young men destroying his hatch. As a Mennonite minister he believes in the way of peace, so instead of calling the authorities or shouting threats, Peter and his wife invite the young men in for a midnight meal. Their act of kindness brings unexpected results. Peter is not alone in this collection of true stories. Each tells of returning love for hate, good for evil. Written for elementary age children (but of interest to teens and adults), Elizabeth H. Bauman shares 17 true stories of men and women from various times and countries who showed the universal power of Christian love.

Book Description
A family’s deepest secrets are exposed in this “haunting domestic drama” from the award-winning author of A Wrinkle in Time (Publishers Weekly). When her teenage granddaughter comes to her with a troubling question, Camilla Dickinson must confront the painful history she’s long kept hidden. Forced to relive her past, she relates a complex saga involving her beautiful, adulterous mother, her troubled son, and the difficult choices that have affected three generations of her family. As she goes through the difficult process of revealing her secrets, Camilla also lets go of the burden of lies she’s told. A testament to the power of acceptance and forgiveness, A Live Coal in the Sea is ultimately an exploration of the lengths to which people will go for love—and the things they’ll do to protect family. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Madeleine L’Engle including rare images from the author’s estate.
