L'objet de la thèse est d'exposer et d'analyser les différents aspects juridiques internationaux de la pollution du Rhin au travers de nombreuses actions auxquelles celle-ci va donner lieu. La 1ère partie a pour titre : les règles du droit international de la pollution transfrontalière et la pollution du Rhin. Elle est consacrée à l'analyse de la formation et de l'évolution des règles et principes du droit international de la pollution transfrontalière; à la façon dont ils se sont imposés aux États riverains du Rhin; et à leur application au cas particulier du Rhin. (Titre I). Sont aussi évoquées dans cette première partie les questions liées au droit international privé et la pollution transfrontalière notamment au travers d'un arrêt de la CJCE ayant un rapport direct avec la pollution du Rhin (Titre II). La 2ème partie a pour titre : l'action internationale en faveur de la lutte contra la pollution du Rhin. Nous évoquons ici l'action spécifique menée contre la pollution du Rhin par les États riverains au sein de la Commission Internationale pour la protection du Rhin contre la pollution. Les aspects juridiques de cette action sont particulièrement étudiés lors de l'examen de conventions portant sur les moyens de lutte contre les principales sources de pollution du Rhin. Sont aussi analysés les problèmes posés par l'une de ces conventions (Titre I). Enfin sont évoqués les aspects juridiques des actions entreprises par des organisations internationales, directement ou indirectement, en faveur de la lutte contre la pollution du Rhin.

European Environmental Policy: East and West focuses on areas of cooperation between Eastern and Western Europe in the field of environmental protection. This text explores the various economic and political circumstances in East and West within which the environmental problem arises, and which will determine the possibilities of reaching a solution.
