La durée des traitements orthodontiques constitue, avec la douleur, la principale cause d'abandon par le patient. Une analyse récente de la littérature suggère une certaine efficacité du laser utilisé à faible énergie, ou laser diode, sur la vitesse de déplacement dentaire au cours d'un traitement orthodontique. Ainsi, une diminution de la durée des traitements aurait pour action d'augmenter la coopération du patient et de diminuer, par ailleurs, les effets délétères attribués aux traitements d'orthodontie. Le CHU de NANTES disposant d'un laser diode SIRONA (970 nm), nous avons décidé de concevoir et de mettre en place une étude clinique contrôlée randomisée en double aveugle sur l'effet du laser diode sur la vitesse de déplacement dentaire en orthodontie. Le protocole est actuellement soumis à l'AOI du CHU de NANTES afin d'obtenir un financement et sera réalisée courant 2014 chez des patients âgés de 12 à 18 ans en phase de traction intermaxillaire de classe II.
