La luz ha sido utilizada tempranamente como elemento expresivo en el teatro, concretamente desde mediados del siglo XVI, presentando un gran desarrollo en la iluminación escénica desde fines del siglo XIX. Por otra parte, durante el siglo XX la luz ha trascendido el ámbito teatral para ser utilizada por artistas plásticos y visuales en las más diversas formas de arte. Por ello, el estudio de la estética de la luz es necesario para comprender cómo se articula la iluminación con los otros elementos que constituyen una obra de arte. Este libro trata sobre los modos en que la luz puede ser tratada desde el punto de vista de la composición espacial y de sus desarrollos en el tiempo. Se consideran así las posibilidades de composición visual con la iluminación. Luego de considerar el fenómeno de la percepción visual y el comportamiento visual de los materiales frente a la luz, se expone una metodología para su estudio desde la estética, tanto en lo referido a las posibilidades de manipulación de la luz como en sus posibles configuraciones espaciales y dinámicas. Así, la finalidad de esta obra es brindar al lector las herramientas conceptuales para la organización formal de la iluminación.

This intriguing study of Mexico's participation in world's fairs from 1889 to 1929 explores Mexico's self-presentation at these fairs as a reflection of the country's drive toward nationalization and a modernized image. Mauricio Tenorio-Trillo contrasts Mexico's presence at the 1889 Paris fair—where its display was the largest and most expensive Mexico has ever mounted—with Mexico's presence after the 1910 Mexican Revolution at fairs in Rio de Janeiro in 1922 and Seville in 1929. Rather than seeing the revolution as a sharp break, Tenorio-Trillo points to important continuities between the pre- and post-revolution periods. He also discusses how, internationally, the character of world's fairs was radically transformed during this time, from the Eiffel Tower prototype, encapsulating a wondrous symbolic universe, to the Disneyland model of commodified entertainment.
