Editée pour la première fois en 1929, La grammaire des fautes est rééditée en 2007 aux éditions Ennoia. Cette "grammaire" tente de répondre à une question toujours actuelle : "Qu'appelle-t-on un fait de langage correct et, lorsqu'on parle d'une faute, que veut-on dire par là ?". Autrement dit, comment traiter de la faute si l'on ne veut pas adopter l'approche des puristes mais plutôt celle des linguistes ? Il trace les bases théoriques de ce qu'il appelle linguistique fonctionnelle par opposition à la linguistique normative. Les fautes remplissent des fonctions et un grand nombre de ces fautes sert à réparer les déficits du langage correct. L'auteur traite ici de questions linguistiques en rompant avec la tradition qui voulait que les fautes soient des pathologies du langage. Il redéfinit le rapport entre le langage et la faute : celle-ci remplit bel et bien une fonction dans la langue, car elle prévient et répare un déficit du langage correct.

The studies collected in this volume deal with pragmatic factors involved in the evolution of grammatical or lexical forms or in the emergence of complex syntactic structures in various languages (Dutch, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Serbian and Spanish). This book offers a selection of papers dealing with second language acquisition, foreign language teaching and creole linguistics inspired by the scientific legacy of Mauritian-born scholar Georges Daniel Véronique (Port-Louis, 1948). An important part of the book is devoted to the description of learner varieties with a focus on sociolinguistic factors, such as the learner situation – from asylum seekers to Erasmus students –, the degree of familiarity with the target language – having or not previous knowledge about a genetically related language –, the degree of literacy, and the type of instruction. Linguistic complexity, case marking, the use of self-positioning pronouns, verbal morphology and aspectual values are among the linguistic phenomena analyzed by the authors having contributed to this part of the volume. Another part of this volume deals with language didactics and addresses the questions of whether manipulating specific constructions from a usage-based perspective and a focus-on-form approach do indeed aid beginner learners to acquire complex forms in L2 German and nominal forms in L2 Polish, respectively. It also explores how some educational policies in Sweden have affected both the offer of French as a Foreign Language and its demand by students. The contributions to creole studies present diachronic analyses targeting the /z/ plural marking in Réunion creole, Fa d’Ambô and spoken French, and a set of NPs found in two speeches pronounced in 1835 on the island of Agaléga by a coconut oil producer whose features are similar to Mauritian creole. King John of England’s defeat by the French in 1204 led to the territorial fragmentation of the Duchy of Normandy. Henceforth, the Norman mainland, allied to France, and the Channel Islands, allied to England, would find themselves on different sides of an ever-widening linguistic gulf. In Variation and Change in Mainland and Insular Norman, Mari C. Jones examines the way in which contact between the Norman dialect and its two typologically different superstrates (French and English) provides optimal conditions to study the linguistic mechanisms of ‘dialect contact’ and ‘language contact’. Through the analysis of extensive and original phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical data, set in their historical and sociolinguistic contexts, this fascinating study explores how advergence with its superstrates has led Norman to diverge linguistically within these territories.
