Sur la base de ce postulat, ce mémoire propose d'étudier les connaissances sémantiques de 12 sujets MA, à des stades très légers à légers de la maladie, grâce à la Batterie d'Evaluation des Connaissances Sémantiques (BECS). Notre travail vise plusieurs objectifs. Il effectue une comparaison des performances des sujets MA à celles de sujets sains appariés; il cherche à déterminer la concordance des résultats de la BECS à ceux des épreuves utilisées dans la pratique clinique courante; enfin, il étudie l'efficacité de la BECS dans la détection de déficits sémantiques éventuel dans la MA. A l'instar de nombreux auteurs qui ont étudié les troubles sémantiques dans la MA, nous observons que la moitié des sujets de cette étude présentent des performances inférieures à celles des sujets sains mais aussi que les profils d'atteinte sémantique sont variables d'un sujet à l'autre. Par ailleurs, la BECS a permis de faire la part entre un déficit sémantique et un trouble d'accès à ces connaissances à partir d'une modalité spécifique. L'observation des performances aux épreuves de la BECS a également permIS l'interprétation des erreurs observées à l'épreuve de dénomination de cette batterie et d'en déterminer l'origine sémantique (dégradation des connaissances sémantiques ou trouble de leur accès) ou non sémantique (déficit du lexique phonologique ou de son accès). Par ailleurs, les résultats de la BECS concordent partiellement avec ceux des épreuves classiques faisant appel à la mémoire sémantique et qui sont classiquement utilisées dans la pratique clinique (D080, fluences verbales, PPTT). La BECS serait donc un outil efficace pour détecter un éventuel déficit sémantique dans la MA.
