Says he will consult Hichborn and Davis about getting a petition drawn up before the legislative session ends this week. Believes it is bad timing, as he had recently dealt with the tax issue with the legislature. Is concerned about a mistake in a judgment regarding one of Knox's claims. The judgment allowed 11,890 when it should have been 5,000.

However, he will keep him in mind for any future openings. Peirce's son, who is the bearer of the letter, intends to set up trade connections between Philadelphia and Boston. He also brings Knox a document from Henry Jackson related to their attempts to purchase land. Peirce discusses Jackson's attempts to get the legislature to approve the canal building project.
