Johann Böhning was born in about 1650 in Prussia. He had four known children. Descendant Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Böhning, son of Christian Ludwig Böhning and Charlotte Louise Frederike Schmidt, was born 26 January 1824 in Lashorst, Westfalen, Prussia. He emigrated in 1853. He married Anna Franziska Charlotte Kordes (1836-1919) 7 July 1855 in St. Louis, Missouri. They had eleven children. He died 23 December 1891 in St. Louis. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Germany and Missouri.

Hermann Heinrich Bohning (1798-1871), son of Johann Friedrich Bohning and Maria Elisabeth Anna Borges, was born in Barkhausen, Hannover, Germany. He married Maria Eleanora Stoffer-Blase (1799-1874) and they immigrated to Ohio in 1843, settling near Cleveland. Descendants lived in Ohio, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, California, and elsewhere.
