The Poles wished to assimilate the Jews and form a common front against the Ukrainians. The Jews wished to remain neutral. Analyzes the implications for the Jews, Poles, and Ukrainians of Jewish attempts at neutrality. Deals with conditions which led to the pogrom in Lvov in November 1918, and with the antisemitism of civilian and military authorities in the West Ukrainian Republic which, however, offered Jews full cultural and national autonomy.
