Book Description
These Conference Proceedings deal with the papers presented at the International Conference on Ion Exchange Processes (ION-EX '90) which was held at The North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, 9- 11 July 1990. The camera-ready paper format was chosen so that delegates could receive their copy on arrival at the Conference. The Proceedings include reviews of biological materials, inorganic ion exchangers, the nuclear industry, theoretical aspects and new advances. In addition, there are research papers dealing with industrial ion exchange procedures and new materials. The Proceedings should therefore be of interest to those who need to be brought up to date in the various aspects of processes which involve ion exchange and ion chromatography which are now accepted as important in analysis, separation processes and process control. In each of these areas there have been important developments which are herein described. As Editors we should like to express our thanks to the individual authors for preparing their manuscripts in the required format and to Haydn Hughes and Linda Sneddon for their invaluable assistance in compiling these Proceedings. These Conference Proceedings deal with the papers presented at the International Conference on Ion Exchange Processes (ION-EX '87) which was held at The North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, 13-16 April 1987. The camera-ready paper format was chosen so that delegates could receive their copy on arrival at the Conference. The Proceedings include reviews of traditional ion exchange processes, ion chromatography and synthesis of resins. In addition there are research papers dealing with inorganic ion analysis; organic acid and organic base analysis; the theory of ion exchange and novel developments; the industrial ion exchange procedures; and finally inorganic ion exchangers. The Proceedings should therefore be of interest to those who need to be brought up to date in the various aspects of processes which involve ion exchange and ion chromatography which are now accepted as important in analysis, separation processes and process control. Book Description
The Ion Exchange and Solvent Extraction series treats ion exchange and solvent extraction both as discrete topics and as a unified, multidisciplinary study - presenting new insights for researchers in many chemical and related fields.;Volume 12 contains coverage of: the nature of metal-ion interaction with oppositely charged sites of ion exchangers; high-pressure ion exchange separation of rare earth elements; the commercial recovery of valuable minerals from seawater and brines by ion exchange and sorption; the kinetics of ion exchange in heterogenous systems; the ion-exchange equilibria of amino acids; and more.;The work is intended for analytical, co-ordination, process, separation, surface, organic, inorganic, physical and environmental chemists, geochemists, electrochemists, radiochemists, biochemists, biophysicists, hydrometallurgists, membrane researchers and chemical engineers.

Book Description
Modern Methods for the Separation of Rarer Metal Ions describes several separation methods of more than 50 elements. This book is divided into 19 chapters that include separation methods involving the actinide elements, rare earths, and many rarer elements of the main and transition groups of the periodic table. The introductory chapter discusses the principles of the separation techniques presented in this book. The remaining chapters explore the application of specific separation methods, such as ion exchange, chromatography, liquid-liquid extraction, distillation, and coprecipitation. The approach of each chapter is a presentation of separation principle of an element first followed by numerous examples of applications to the solution of practical problems encountered in separation chemistry. Chapters 2 and 3 examine the separations involving the actinides and rare earth elements using ion exchange and liquid-liquid extraction These are followed by chapters dealing with separations of other rarer elements, which have been arranged according to their position in the periodic table. These elements are: Li, Rb, Cs, Fr, Be, Ra, Ga, In, Tl, Ge, Ag, Au, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo, W, Tc, Re and the platinum metals. This book will be of great use to analytical chemists.
