Book Description
For centuries, the creation of Jacquard cloth required the collaborative efforts of teams of designers and technicians working on vastly complex equipment. In the past three decades, developments in loom technology and CAD systems have made it possible for a single individual to design and produce this most challenging class of textiles. Digital Jacquard Design presents a comprehensive introduction to the creation of weave patterning in the era of digitally piloted looms. It offers both aesthetic and technical training for students of figured weaving, covering the Jacquard medium in fantastic breadth and depth. The book is an essential guide for all who create figured textiles with modern materials and tools, and provides the reader with a 'digital' key to access and employ the great textile traditions of the past. Digital Jacquard Design examines the design process from end to end, progressing from visual analysis, sample analysis and weave-drafting methods, to figuring techniques and the selection and building of weaves. It provides a guide to converting traditional drafts to digital polychrome format, a design terminology and a weave glossary. The book concludes with a rich set of case studies to demonstrate ingenious and effective weave and design solutions.

Book Description
Technologized textiles and sustainable fabrics are among the most innovative designed today, and together they are driving the rest of the industry dramatically forward. Many designers are now integrating hi-tech fabrics, such as protective and impact-resistant textiles, or cellulose fabrics with groundbreaking results. Embracing new processes such as biomimicry, they bridge the gap between art, design, technology and sustainability. This book showcases new work from over 35 of today’s most forward-thinking textile designers, featuring surface designs, highly-structured textures and striking silhouettes. Each will be presented through inspirational text and striking visual spreads to include design sketches, work-in-progress photographs and digital drawings alongside images of cutting-edge furniture, interior textiles and fashion. This book shows how the development of fabrics today is immersed in technology, sustainability and innovation. It is an essential resource for anyone interested in contemporary textile design.

Book Description
Textile design is a complex field of practice which operates in a competitive, global industry. Designers need to take into account not only the design but also the manufacture, technological development and application of the final product. Textile design provides a broad overview of the fundamentals of and advances in textile design, as well as practical case studies of relevant industries. Part one covers the principles of fabric construction as applied to textile design, with chapters on fundamental principles, woven and knitted textile design. Part two discusses surface approaches to textile design, with chapters on such topics as surface design of textiles, printed and embroidered textile design, dyeing and finishing and the use of colour in textile design. Finally, part three focuses on the applications and advances in textile design, including chapters covering colour trend forecasting, sustainable textile design, fashion, interior and 2D to 3D design considerations and new developments in technical and future textiles. With its distinguished editors and international team of contributors, Textile design is an essential reference for design professionals in the textile and fashion industries, as well as those who specialise in interior textiles and academics with a research interest in the area.

Book Description
The practice-based research methodology was adopted in this research study. This study combined the theories of colour-changing and weaving technologies, practical concept development in creating high value interior home textiles products including "smart sofa cloth, curtain, dining table cloth, glass mat and lamp cover" that could fit into the current interior and home textiles market. The research design of this study was divided into five major stages: the "research stage", "analysis stage", "design of initial prototypes", "evaluation stage", and "detail design" in order to create the high value colour-changing smart home textiles prototypes that could correspond to both human and environmental factors. The theoretical design process model of colour-changing smart home textiles was developed and based on the concept of French's design process model as well as the adoption of product development process and engineering approach to industrial design. The main process was detailed as follows: a) identifying needs; b) analysis of problem; conceptual design; embodiment of schemes; c) detailing. The final colour changing smart home textiles prototypes were then created according to the developed design process model. From this study, the knowledge of colour-changing smart home textiles from the aesthetic and functional perspectives can be enhanced and provide novelty in the contemporary textile design industry. The proposed design process model of colour-changing smart home textiles is able to illustrate the innovative design development for contemporary interior home textiles. The developed high value colour-changing smart home textiles prototypes are able to br utilises in different types of textiles products so as to meet the challenging needs of future lifestyle and consumer requirements. Both of the textile design industry and, fashion and textile design education can be profited because of the theoretical and practical contributions made in this study.

Book Description
Textile Technology and Design addresses the critical role of the interior at the intersection of design and technology, with a range of interdisciplinary arguments by a wide range of contributors: from design practitioners to researchers and scholars to aerospace engineers. Chapters examine the way in which textiles and technology – while seemingly distinct – continually inform each other through their persistent overlapping of interests, and eventually coalesce in the practice of interior design. Covering all kinds of interiors from domestic (prefabricated kitchens and 3D wallpaper) to extreme (underwater habitats and space stations), it features a variety of critical aspects including pattern and ornament, domestic technologies, craft and the imperfect, gender issues, sound and smart textiles. This book is essential reading for students of textile technology, textile design and interior design.
