Book Description
The principal objective of this project was to gain improved understanding for the mean and turbulent flow physics associated with non-equilibrium, strained, supersonic, compressible boundary layer flow over rough curved surfaces and elevated freestream turbulence levels. Measurements of mean flow and turbulence statistics within such boundary layers has been conducted using Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) technique and the data are reported. Numerical simulation of the flow was also conducted using the eddy-viscosity turbulence models and comparison of the predictions with measurements was performed and reported. This report consists of two parts. The experimental work in this project was subcontracted to R.D.W. Bowersox, Aerospace Engineering Department, Texas A & M University, TX. In Part I, the experimental work done by Bowersox and his group is reported. The pertinent experimental data is given at the end of Part I of this report. The numerical simulation is reported in Part II of this report.

Book Description
An analysis of the incompressible turbulent boundary layer, developing under the combined effects of mass transfer and pressure gradient, is presented in this paper. A strip-integral method is employed whereby two of the three governing equations are obtained by integrating the combined momentum and continuity equation to 50 percent and 100 percent, respectively, of the boundary-layer height. The latter equation is the usual momentum-integral equation; the former equation requires specification of shear. Accordingly, Clauser's equilibrium eddy-viscosity law is assumed valid at this point. The third and final equation is obtained by specifying that Stevenson's velocity profiles apply throughout the domain of interest, from which a skin-friction law can be derived. Comparisons of the numerical results with the experiments of McQuaid, which include combined effects of variable pressure gradient and mass transfer, show good agreement.

Book Description
This volume presents a discussion of mean flow profile data for compressible boundary layers. In AGARDograph 223, (Fernholz and Finley, 1977) the predecessor of this volume, data were presented for nominally two-dimensional flows for which mean flow profile data were available in tabular form. Data for 59 experimental boundary layer studies were given, with a brief introduction. Comment and discussion were reserved for this volume, AGARDograph 253. Suitable cross-references are given to relate the discussion in this volume to the earlier publication. The commentary in this volume includes discussion of the theroetical basis for interpretation of measurements, concepts from low-speed studies, interpretation of mean flow data with and without pressure gradient. The causes of normal pressure gradients are described, so as to allow an estimation of their magnitude, and their influence on boundary layer scale lengths. A third volume is planned in this series, which will include additional data, some of which is discussed here. This work was sponsored by the Fluid Dynamics Panel of AGARD. (Author).
