El I Congreso Iberoamericano de Bancos de Sangre y Medicina Transfusional se llevo a cabo en Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico, del 24 al 26 de abril de 1991 con la participacion de algunos paises de Centro y Sur America y Espana, y en el cual se transmitieron los conocimientos actuales necesarios para el manejo cientifico y consciente de la transfusion sanguinea a fin de utilizar sangre segura, sana y libre de agentes patogenos. Asimismo, en este congreso, el Centro Nacional de Transfusion Sanguinea, Mexico, informa que se han establecido 29 Centros Estatales de Transfusion sanguinea, en 29 entidades de la Republica mexicana, durante 1990, restando tan solo en los Estados de Sinaloa y Sonora; estos centros estatales han sido dotados de todos los recursos necesarios a fin de que haya un control efectivo de la calidad, manejo y distribucion de la sangre. En esta memoria se dan a conocer los logros alcanzados por dichos centros estatales de transfusion sanguinea.
