O Instituto de Pesquisa e Extensão Perspectivas e Desafios de Humanização do Direito Civil-Constitucional (IDCC), criado no ano de 2012, por iniciativa de docentes da Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB) e do Centro Universitário de João Pessoa (UNIPÊ), apresenta já em sua gênese, os propósitos de desenvolvimento de atividades acadêmicas que possam contribuir para o desenvolvimento e humanização das instituições jurídicas de direito privado no país, nomeadamente aquelas que se encartam no amplo e mutável universo do Direito Civil. As atividades do Instituto já contabilizam a realização de cinco seminários, com participação de juristas de todo o país além da publicação de outras obras, tanto eletrônicas quanto impressas, que condensam a vasta produção científica de seus membros, tanto docentes quanto discentes. A proposta do Instituto mais do que simplesmente transitar sobre o já consolidado método de releitura das instituições civis proposto pela escola do Direito Civil-Constitucional, propõe-se um passo adiante: a consolidação da vertente de humanização do Direito Civil. Humanizar os velhos institutos que sustentam os pilares seculares do Direito Civil significa ir além da concepção das pessoas humanas como meros personagens do mundo jurídico, destruídos de suas especificidades e subjetividades que as tornam diferentes umas das outras. Para tanto, importar reafirmar a posição de centralidade do ser humano - o início e o fim do Direito, o núcleo duro de todo ordenamento jurídico. A partir daí, impõe-se a fixação de duas premissas fundamentais: a primazia do ser humano enquanto núcleo orientador da ordem jurídica e a superação da concepção da pessoa humana como simples sujeito de direitos, dissociado de suas características e circunstâncias. Coloca-se a pessoa natural, enfim, como a razão de ser da lei e do Direito, enquanto ser dotado de uma dignidade que lhe é intrínseca, bem como se tutela seu direito fundamental à diferença. É este o ponto de partida a orientar todas as concepções que se possam extrair sobre os temas contemporâneos de Direito Civil em sua perspectiva humanizada. Assim, é com imensa satisfação que chegamos a mais uma edição com a coletânea dos trabalhos apresentados no V Seminário que é realizado anualmente pelo grupo. A presente obra, intitulada FUNCIONALIZAÇÃO DO DIREITO E SOCIALIZAÇÃO DOS INSTITUTOS CIVIS, reúne textos que são frutos de pesquisas de professores e alunos de graduação e pós-graduação de diferentes instituições do Brasil, problematizando os desafios da vertente humanizadora do direito civil.Os trabalhos aqui contidos foram reunidos, avaliados e organizados em grupos temáticos pelos professores Maria Cristina Paiva Santiago (UNIPÊ), Fredys Orlando Sorto (UFPB) e Estela Nunes (FIP), que orgulhosamente saúdam a comunidade jurídica, por meio da edição desta valiosa contribuição à boa pesquisa acadêmica e científica.

The problems related to the process of industrialisation such as biodiversity depletion, climate change and a worsening of health and living conditions, especially but not only in developing countries, intensify. Therefore, there is an increasing need to search for integrated solutions to make development more sustainable. The United Nations has acknowledged the problem and approved the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. On 1st January 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Agenda officially came into force. These goals cover the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection. The Encyclopedia of the UN Sustainable Development Goals comprehensively addresses the SDGs in an integrated way. The Encyclopedia encompasses 17 volumes, each one devoted to one of the 17 SDGs. This volume addresses SDG 16, namely "Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels" and contains the description of a range of terms, which allows a better understanding and fosters knowledge.
