ISBN: 9781484272756
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Build a versatile home automation system from scratch. There are many ways of controlling home appliances with your smartphones, voice, gestures, etc. This book dives into the many options for for communicating with appliances wirelessly and we'll discuss and implement the leading protocols in the field. In first few chapters, you will develop a basic understanding of the Raspberry Pi and how one can control it wirelessly from anywhere in the world. Then you'll get to know about the local server for your home automation projects and control the Raspberry Pi GPIOs using smartphone and web apps. Every appliance will be able to talk to each other, as well, with the help of mesh networking, which you'll learn to implement. The user interface is also an important aspect of handling all the appliances, so you'll create your own user dashboard using OpenHAB. From there, you can monitor all the appliances and sensor data in one environment. Next, implement your own custom voice assistant to control your appliances and perform basic tasks like playing music, checking weather, etc. You'll also integrate a smart door bell into your system using image processing so that you can restrict an unknown person's entry. Finally, we'll combine all the knowledge that we have learned to make a fully versatile home automation project controlled using voice, gestures, and image processing. Throughout this whole project, Raspberry Pi will be your master server or node and other devices will be connected wirelessly using wi-fi/Bluetooth modules. Create a smart home with fully custom interfaces to do exactly what you need! You will: Create a user interface using openHAB Implement the MQTT protocol Install Alexa and Google Home API to control appliances wirelessly.

Smart Home (in Living Color)

Languages : en
Pages : 312
Book Description
#1 New Release in Do-It-Yourself Home Improvement*This is the same book as "Smart Home", but text and photos are in color for a better reading experience. The idea of a smart home includes a wide variety of emerging technologies. Examples include voice controlled digital assistants, robots, smart thermostats and blinds, and unifying platforms like SmartThings and IFTTT ("if this, then that"). In my home, I incorporated a combination of these things. Some overlap. The technology is futuristic and, frankly, cool; but it required me to change the way I interacted with the world around me. Once my smart home was set up the way I wanted, I had to be mindful that it was there to help me - albeit not necessarily on my terms. I had to learn how to interact with my digital assistants. That journey is still unfolding, and I expect my smart home to keep expanding and improving as more things are added. This book started simply as the notes that my wife kept during our recent personal experiences with selecting and setting up smart home devices after we built a new house. While whole-home solutions like HomeSeer or SmartThings are available in the market, we selected what we felt was the best product for each task, and made sure they would all integrate with our existing home. (In the interest of full disclosure, references to "me" or "our" attribute more credit to me than is due. She was the driving force and brains behind the whole endeavor!) While researching our project, we read a plethora of reviews from folks like us (real people, that is). Some admittedly were more insightful than others, but we gained valuable insights into what to avoid, what questions to ask, etc. and we found some great ideas. If you are a DIY type or just want a general idea of what is going on with smart homes, this book will show you a bit of what is possible. By the end of this book, indeed, I hope that you will be comfortable in the Internet of Things (or "IoT") world of connected devices, digital assistants, skills or IFTTT applets. When you look at the table of contents, it answers the question of what a smart home can do for you. I also tried to organize it in such a way that you can quickly find what you're looking for. * Learn smart home terminology and what really matters when buying equipment. * Select good equipment and plan for future growth. * Set up and connect everything. * Maintain your smart home.tags: alexa, smart home, smart house, smart sensors, amazon echo, home automation, connected things, echo, echo dot, echo show, home security, insteon, smart home technology, siri, google assistant, digital assistant, personal assistant, bixby, cortana, ifttt, smartapps, smart things, smartthings, smart devices, smart speakers, smart cities, internet of things, iot, smart locks, samsung artik, artik, alexa skills, home security, qubino, yunomi

If you are a DIY type, or just want a general idea of what is going on with smart homes, this book will show you a bit of what is possible. By the end of this book, indeed, I hope that you will be comfortable in the Internet of Things (or "IoT") world of connected devices, digital assistants, skills or IFTTT applets. When you look at the table of contents, it answers the question of what a smart home can do for you. I also tried to organize it in such a way that you can quickly find what you're looking for.- Learn smart home terminology and what really matters when buying equipment. - Select good equipment and plan for future growth.- Set up and connect everything.- Maintain your smart home.Ntags: alexa, smart home, smart house, smart sensors, amazon echo, home automation, connected things, echo, echo dot, echo show, home security, insteon, smart home technology, siri, google assistant, digital assistant, personal assistant, bixby, cortana, ifttt, smartapps, smart things, smartthings, smart devices, smart speakers, smart cities, internet of things, iot, smart locks, samsung artik, artik, alexa skills, home security, qubino, yunomi

Book Description
#1 New Release, #10 Ranking after 6 months! The Kindle edition is free when you purchase the paperback edition. Seamlessly switch between Audible and Kindle editions with Whispersync. The idea of a smart home includes a wide variety of emerging technologies. Examples include voice-controlled digital assistants, robots, smart thermostats and blinds, and unifying platforms like SmartThings and IFTTT ("if this, then that").
