Book Description
Among living vertebrates bats and birds are unique in their ability to fly, and it is this common feature that sets them apart ecologically from other groups. Bats are in some ways the noctumal equivalents of birds, having evolved and radiated into a diversity of forms to fill many of the same niches. The evolution of flight and echolocation in bats was undoubtedly a prime mover in the diversification of feeding and roosting habits, reproductive strategies, and social behaviors. Bats have successfully colonized almost every continential region on earth (except Antarctica), as weIl as many oceanic islands and archipelagos. They comprise the second largest order of mammals (next to rodents) in number of species and probably exceed all other such groups in overall abundance. Bats exhibit a dietary diversity (including insects, fruits, leaves, flowers, nectar and pollen, fish. other vertebrates, and blood) unparalleled among other living mammals. Their reproductive pattems range from seasonal monestry to polyestry, and mating systems inelude promiscuity, monogamy, and polygyny. The vast majority of what we know about the ecology of bats is derived from studies of only a few of the approximately 850 species, yet in the past two decades studies on bats have escalated to a level where many important empirical pattems and processes have been identified. This knowledge has strengthened our understanding of ecological relationships and encouraged hypothesis testing rather than perpetuated a catalog of miscellaneous observations.

Book Description
Hair is the subject of this book, including the anatomy of the hair follicle, developmental stages, analyzed by light and electron microscopy, hair ultrastructure, nerve and blood supply, specialized hairs and hair organs, and a review of the present techniques to cultivate hair follicle cells in vitro. In the clinical part several chapters describe the most important diseases and possibilities for treatment. Hair care products and their toxicology are the subject of further sections. Extensive reviews of the antiandrogens, a most important group of drugs influencing hair growth, and of their clinical use in conditions such as androgenetic alopecias and hirsutism are included as well. Finally, surgical techniques for hair transplantation are discussed. This book is a standard textbook for everything pertaining to hair under normal and pathological conditions.

Book Description
A major problem with vampire bats is that whatever information exists is scattered throughout the literature or is not recorded. There are some excellent books on the ecology and biology of bats with very little on vampire bats. This volume fills that gap to provide an in-depth presentation of these unique animals.

Book Description
Bringing together the most recent literature, this book provides an in-depth look at the field of wildlife forensic examination. Offering practical guidance, it helps investigators and lab technicians decide on best methods, including a determination of when basic microscopy is sufficient, when DNA testing should occur, and what tests or combination of tests should be executed in a particular circumstance. The text illustrates how to identify the species and geographic region of origin of an unknown sample. International contributors separate truth from myth in providing information and insight regarding the wide scope of endangered animal trafficking for meats, arts, curios, aphrodisiacs, and traditional medicines.Selected Contents: CITES
