Grayson County is famous in southwestern Virginia as the cradle of the New River settlements--perhaps the first settlements beyond the Alleghanies. The Nuckolls book is equally famous for its genealogies of the pioneer settlers of the county, which, typically, provide the names of the progenitors of the Grayson County line and their dates and places of migration and settlement, and then, in fluid progression, the names of all offspring in the direct and sometimes collateral lines of descent. One volume of genealogical references was not nearly enough. There were fifteen years of chancery suits that were unable to fit teh first volume. There were plenty of other court orders pertaining to exemptions, guardianships, removals, and illegitimate children. There were quite a few more references to include! Volume two covers much of teh same territory as teh first volume of genealogical references! included are all references to administrations and executorships on estates that were recorded in the court order books between 1793 and 1870. Additionally, chancery records containing familial information between 1855 and 1870 are included, in addition to more land records and pensions. New sources mined for this book include the records of teh Mount Pleasant Monthly Meeting, the lists of free blacks and mulattos in the county from 1837, 1839-40, and also for teh years 1856 and 1857. If you are looking for something that was not in teh first volume of genealogical references, uou'll want to look through this volume!-- back cover

Chiefly a record of some of the descendants of James Sage. He was born ca. 1749 near London, England. He immigrated to America ca. 1773. He married Lovis (Lovice) Ott (Utt) 15 Dec 1780 in Montgomeroy County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Sylvester Ott. They were the parents of fourteen children. He died 17 Mar 1820. She died 28 Aug 1854. Descendants lived in Virginia, Missouri and elsewhere.
