While I was in Arran, said Mr. Spurgeon, I heard of a minister who preached in a certain church, and at the close of the service was strongly urged to promise for a future supply, the collection after his sermon having been un usually large. 'dear me, ' said the minis ter, with becoming pride, 'what might your ordinary collections amount to 2' 'last Sunday it was two-pence half-penny.' 'what is it to-da, then?' asked the minis ter, expecting to hear a large sum. 'eight pence half penny, ' was the reply. 'woe is me, groaned the minister, 'for I gave the Sixpence myself.' equal To the occasion. - He had never seen a telephone, and his friend was show ing him how it worked.
