Book Description
Fatigue crack growth rate data are obtained for center cracked specimens of A533B steel subjected to elastic-plastic cyclic loading. Cyclic J-integral values estimated from load versus deflection hysteresis loops are correlated with these growth rate data. The relationship obtained is in agreement with previous elastic-plastic data on compact specimens and also with linear elastic data on large size compact specimens. These experimental data suggest that the fracture mechanics approach to fatigue crack growth may be extended by the use of the J-integral concept, so that large scale plasticity effects are included.

Handbook of Fatigue Crack Propagation in Metallic Structures
Author: A. Carpinteri
Publisher: Newnes
ISBN: 0444600329
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 834
Book Description
The purpose of this Handbook is to provide a review of the knowledge and experiences in the field of fatigue fracture mechanics. It is well-known that engineering structures can fail due to cyclic loading. For instance, a cyclically time-varying loading reduces the structure strength and can provoke a fatigue failure consisting of three stages: (a) crack initiation (b) crack propagation and (c) catastrophic failure. Since last century many scientists have tried to understand the reasons for the above-mentioned failures and how to prevent them. This Handbook contains valuable contributions from leading experts within the international scientific community and covers many of the important problems associated with the fatigue phenomena in civil, mechanical and nuclear engineering.

Advanced Approaches Applied to Materials Development and Design Predictions
Author: AbĂlio M. P. De Jesus
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3039284126
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 164
Book Description
This thematic issue on advanced simulation tools applied to materials development and design predictions gathers selected extended papers related to power generation systems, presented at the XIX International Colloquium on Mechanical Fatigue of Metals (ICMFM XIX), organized at University of Porto, Portugal, in 2018. In this issue, the limits of the current generation of materials are explored, which are continuously being reached according to the frontier of hostile environments, whether in the aerospace, nuclear, or petrochemistry industry, or in the design of gas turbines where efficiency of energy production and transformation demands increased temperatures and pressures. Thus, advanced methods and applications for theoretical, numerical, and experimental contributions that address these issues on failure mechanism modeling and simulation of materials are covered. As the Guest Editors, we would like to thank all the authors who submitted papers to this Special Issue. All the papers published were peer-reviewed by experts in the field whose comments helped to improve the quality of the edition. We also would like to thank the Editorial Board of Materials for their assistance in managing this Special Issue.
