Book Description
Most of us have our version of simpler days--a bubble-like period when life was easy-going and untroubled. We had no responsibilities, mortgages, or debt, along with healthy bodies and sharp minds. Sunscreen was optional. Good hearing was a given. You could do flips off the diving board at the local public pool whenever you felt like it. Today... the only flip I ever do is the one where I slip on the ice to shovel my sidewalk. So... I challenge you to remember your childhood, pick your own story. We all have one, even if it's buried somewhere deep in the confines of our memories. Simple things... like -- hanging out at the local pizza joint. Playing in the street with all of your friends, memories of little league baseball games and ice skating at the local pond. It's remembering biking across town, playing chase, trying not to get caught by anyone. Not to mention the moment you realized that girls weren't as yucky as you once thought they were. Over the past few years, I looked back on my teenage years and discovered that I still see the footprints I once laid down in my small hometown. These footprints left an indelible mark on my life and these stories of my youth left behind an imprint that I carry to this day. Life is about returning. Returning home. I find myself on a journey to find my way home. My success is now more or less found in being a good man. A good husband. A good father. A good grandfather and a good servant of God. This is where home is for me now. I hope you enjoy more stories of my youth and I hope they inspire you to tell yours.

Book Description
When American forces arrived in Vietnam, they found themselves embedded in historic village and frontier spaces already shaped by many past conflicts. American bases and bombing targets followed spatial and political logics influenced by the footprints of past wars in central Vietnam. The militarized landscapes here, like many in the worlds historic conflict zones, continue to shape post-war land-use politics. Footprints of War traces the long history of conflict-produced spaces in Vietnam, beginning with early modern wars and the French colonial invasion in 1885 and continuing through the collapse of the Saigon government in 1975. The result is a richly textured history of militarized landscapes that reveals the spatial logic of key battles such as the Tet Offensive. Drawing on extensive archival work and years of interviews and fieldwork in the hills and villages around the city of Hue to illuminate wars footprints, David Biggs also integrates historical Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, using aerial, high-altitude, and satellite imagery to render otherwise placeless sites into living, multidimensional spaces. This personal and multilayered approach yields an innovative history of the lasting traces of war in Vietnam and a model for understanding other militarized landscapes.

Book Description
A presentation of contemporary houses that demonstrates how domesticity can be beautiful and still help the planet. Have we passed a tipping point beyond which we can no longer reverse a course of action that was charted several decades ago Sustainable: Houses with Small Footprints argues that we can indeed detach our dwellings from a dependence on many external systems and resources and adopt other building practices. What is known as living off the grid is possible, and Sustainable presents forty-five houses that demonstrate how architects have implemented sustainable design concepts around the world. These projects show us what time-tested vernacular design principles—including local materials, natural ventilation strategies, and earth shelter construction—can teach us, as well as how the latest cutting-edge technologies—such as indoor farming and "living walls" made of plant material—can make truly sustainable design possible. The variety and ingenuity of the projects featured here make Sustainable a uniquely coherent and authoritative volume on sustainable residential design.

Book Description
The concept of the “midlife crisis” has been the source of jokes for decades now, but for some people, the realization that they’ve entered their middle years can conjure up conflicting, often unexpected, feelings. For some, it is a time of contentment—a period of self-acceptance and a general feeling of stability—or a time where things are slowing down just enough to allow some reflection on who we are and who we want to be moving forward. For others, it can be a time of angst, reminiscent of the transition to adulthood. Regardless of how we react to the knowledge that we’re leaving our youth behind us, recognizing that this is where we are in life can be an incredible catalyst for us to make positive changes in areas of our lives that maybe aren’t quite all we’d like them to be. This food and travel memoir recounts one woman’s decision to make just such a change. Footprints is more than just a recipe book or travel guide. It is one woman's account of personal growth and self discovery as she travels through Europe and Asia as a fortysomething single woman. Regardless of your age and stage in life, It is sure to leave you both inspired and challenged to approach life with passion and courage.

Patricia Jones has been leaving Smalltown, Alabama, since she was thirteen years old. Sometimes in her mind. Sometimes in her preparation. Sometimes physically. Never, however, did she anticipate leaving under the circumstances in which she eventually did. As the youngest of four siblings, Patricia realized she was the last child to leave home. Her parents had a tumultuous marriage that she witnessed all her life. At the age of thirteen, she overheard her mother tell a friend she was trapped in the marriage until she got Patricia out and on her own. Patricia began, at that moment, to plan her departure, and depart she did, learning a lot about herself in the process.
