Book Description
A long-overdue history of America's "forgotten flattop." On November 24, 1943, a Japanese torpedo plunged into the starboard side of the American escort carrier USS Liscome Bay. The torpedo struck the thin-skinned carrier in the worst possible place the bomb storage area. The resulting explosion could be seen 16 miles away, literally ripping the Liscome Bay in half and killing 644 of her crew. In terms of lives lost, it was the costliest carrier sinking in United States naval history. Liscome Bay's loss came on her first combat operation: the American invasion of the Gilbert Islands. Despite her short career, she touched a number of remarkable and famous lives. Doris Miller, the first black American sailor to win the Navy Cross, lost his life, as did Rear Admiral Henry Mullinax, one of the Navy's first "air admirals." John Crommelin was the senior officer to survive the sinking. Later in his career, Crommelin, a decorated naval aviator himself, sparked the famous Revolt of the Admirals, which helped save the role of naval aviation in America's Cold War military. James Noles's account of the Liscome Bay and those who served aboard her is based on interviews with the ship's survivors and an unpublished memoir that the ship's pay officer made available to the author. This readable, compelling book pays homage to the crew by telling their story of experience and sacrifice. To follow Jim Noles on Twitter, access his stream here: http://www.twitter.com/mightyby

Book Description
Surely there was a village nearby. “Stop!” Without warning three armed men suddenly appeared in front of the two young Lifestory Tellers. “Who are you and what are you doing here?” “We are teachers sir,” Asgat replied, humbly but clearly. “We don’t want any teachers. Go away, or we will kill you!” “Wait,” Asgat said. “If you have children we have a story for them.” “What kind of story?” “A beautiful story about God.” All was quiet as the elders stared at the young men. “You may come to our school and tell the children the story, but then you must leave immediately after.” Asgat and Alifaz smiled and gave a customary greeting. Soon many households in this village had heard about Jesus for the first time and said yes to following Him. God did several miracles that day in that large village. But how did the gospel get to this remote part of the Himalayas? Jerri and I had spent years praying, fasting and struggling to share God’s love with the people group to whom we had been sent. But we were only seeing a few come to faith each month, and they weren’t winning others. Finally the Lord had mercy, and showed us how the gospel could multiply in our field just as it did in the book of Acts.

Book Description
In the Old Testament, God's people saw Him in a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. In the New Testament, the religious world thought they had God in a box behind the veil. When Jesus died, the veil was rent and God went public. In an ever changing world where the darkness prides itself by proclaiming they have psychic insights for every person, the church has become anemic, without as much as a sign, a miracle or a wonder. Where do we go from here? Faith is at a level the church has never known before. It is a faith being seen in the "here and now." We must understand what Jesus meant when He said, "I only do what I hear and what I see My Father do and say." You are about to enter that eternal zone, where time is losing its grip on the earth. Eternity is Invading Time.

Book Description
A New York Times and Los Angeles Times Bestseller “Doughty chronicles [death] practices with tenderheartedness, a technician’s fascination, and an unsentimental respect for grief.” —Jill Lepore, The New Yorker Fascinated by our pervasive fear of dead bodies, mortician Caitlin Doughty embarks on a global expedition to discover how other cultures care for the dead. From Zoroastrian sky burials to wish-granting Bolivian skulls, she investigates the world’s funerary customs and expands our sense of what it means to treat the dead with dignity. Her account questions the rituals of the American funeral industry—especially chemical embalming—and suggests that the most effective traditions are those that allow mourners to personally attend to the body of the deceased. Exquisitely illustrated by artist Landis Blair, From Here to Eternity is an adventure into the morbid unknown, a fascinating tour through the unique ways people everywhere confront mortality.

Book Description
Would reality defeat their dream? Or would God give them a breakthrough? Jon and Jerri heard Jesus' voice and followed Him into one of the world's most militarized zones-the disputed area between Pakistan and Northern India. The goal-to multiply God's blessing in Jesus among a people with no other obvious hope of hearing and following Him. Yet all the ways Jon knew for leading others to Jesus were totally inadequate for this situation. After days of prayer and fasting, God led Jon to write a simple story based on Jesus' encounter with Nicodemus. Before dawn, Jon told it to the first person he could find-the hotel chef. Upon hearing the story, this man wanted to follow Jesus immediately. That evening this new believer brought nine other to hear the story. And in just two short hours, all nine wanted to follow Jesus. 5 Minutes to Eternity is the true story of what happened as an elderly couple heard and followed Jesus, then taught those God drew to also hear and follow Jesus. Immediately, these new believers began sharing with their family and friends, forming teams, and taking the gospel to other people groups and places. The resulting Lifestory movements mirror the book of Acts-new believers hearing and following Jesus, and telling others who He is and inviting them to follow Him. Trusting these new believers to hear and follow Jesus has led to a rapid multiplication of new disciples, and God's blessing in their households and communities. Lifestory movements are emerging in many places and cultures-embracing the lordship of Jesus, the authority of Scripture, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In just a few hours, you too can learn the Lifestory. And as you hear and follow Jesus, you too can begin a Lifestory movement to multiply laborers where they are lacking!

Book Description
A group of kids from hell come to Earth on one of the craziest nights of the year—Halloween—in this “entertaining, high-octane” (Kirkus Reviews) middle grade adventure about teamwork, friendship, shattering expectations, and understanding the world (or otherworld) around us. Malachi and his friends are just your regular average kids from hell. The suburbs that is, not the fiery pit part. But when Hell’s Bells ring out—signaling that a soul has escaped from one of the eternal circles, Mal and his friends can’t help but take the opportunity for a little adventure. Before they know it, they’ve somehow slipped through the veil and found themselves in the middle of Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night. And what’s even worse, they’ve managed to bring the escaped soul with them! As the essence of one of history’s greatest manipulators gains power by shifting the balance on Earth, Mal and his squad-mates—along with some new friends that they meet along the way—work desperately to trap the escapee, save the people of Earth from the forces of evil, and find the portal back to their own dimension. If they can’t manage it before their parents realize they’re gone, they’ll be grounded for an eternity. And an eternity in hell is a very, very long time.
