Book Description
The authors present a preliminary measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in B[sup 0][yields] J/[psi]K[sub s][sup 0] and B[sup 0][yields][psi](2S)K[sub s][sup 0] decay recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. The data sample consists of 9.0 fb[sup -1] collected at the[Upsilon](4S) resonance and 0.8 fb[sup -1] off-resonance. One of the neutral B mesons, produced in pairs at the[Upsilon](4S), is fully reconstructed. The flavor of the other neutral B meson is tagged at the time of its decay, mainly with the charge of identified leptons and kaons. The time difference between the decays is determined by measuring the distance between the decay vertices. Wrong-tag probabilities and the time resolution function are measured with samples of fully-reconstructed semileptonic and hadronic neutral B final states. The value of the asymmetry amplitude, sin2[beta], is determined from a maximum likelihood fit to the time distribution of 120 tagged B[sup 0][yields] J/[psi]K[sub s][sup 0] and B[sup 0][yields][psi](2S)K[sub s][sup 0] candidates: sin2[beta]= 0.12[+-] 0.37 (stat)[+-] 0.09 (syst).

Book Description
The BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B factory at SLAC has collected over 37 106 BB pairs in the years 2000 and 2001. Based on this data sample, various studies of CP violation in the B system are presented, including the first observation of CP violation outside the kaon system and a measurement of the CKM parameter sin(2[beta]) = 0.59 ± 0.14(stat) ± 0.05(syst). Studies on direct CP violation and CP violation in mixing are also presented.

Book Description
The most recent results obtained by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC on CP-violating asymmetries and branching fractions for neutral and charged B decays are presented here. The analysis was performed on a data sample of[approx] 88 million[Upsilon](4S)[yields] B[bar B] decays collected between 1999 and 2002. Using b[yields] c[bar c]s decays, we measure sin2[beta]= 0.741[+-] 0.067(stat)[+-] 0.034(syst). We also present sin2[beta] measurements from, b[yields] s[bar s]s and b[yields] c[bar c]d processes. From neutral B meson decays to two-body final states of charged pions and kaons, we derive for the CP violating parameters, S[sub[pi][pi]]= 0.02[+-] 0.34[+-] 0.05[-0.54,+0.58] and C[sub[pi][pi]]= -0.30[+-] 0.25[+-] 0.04[-0.72,+0.12]. First results for B[yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup -][pi][sup 0] and K[sup[+-]][pi][sup[-+]][pi][sup 0] final states dominated by the[rho][sup[+-]] resonance, are also presented.

Book Description
Presenting the proceedings of FPCP 2018, this book reviews the status quo of flavor physics and discusses the latest findings in this exciting area. Flavor physics has been instrumental in the formulation and understanding of the standard model, and it is possible that the direction of new physics will be significantly influenced by flavor sector, also known as the intensity frontier, making it possible to indirectly test the existence of new physics up to a very high scale, beyond that of the energy frontier scale accessible at the LHC. The book is intended for academics around the globe involved in particle physics research, professionals associated with the related technologies and those who are interested in learning about the future of physics and its prospects and directions.

Book Description
This volume contains many excellent articles presenting the most recent progress in high energy physics and the current interesting problems concerning flavor physics. The reader will see how flavor physics has become a central area of particle physics, with the Standard Model (SM) being subjected to increasingly precise experiments, and why the remaining puzzles in the SM, such as the mechanisms of symmetry breaking and CP violation, as well as fermion mass and mixing generation, all are mysteries hidden in the physics of flavor. The book also shows that flavor physics is likely to be a window for probing new physics beyond the SM for many years to come.

Book Description
This book is devoted to the broad subject of flavor physics, embracing the question of what distinguishes one type of elementary particles from another. The articles range from the forefront of formal theory (treating the physics of extra dimensions) to details of particle detectors. Although special emphasis is placed on the physics of kaons, charmed and beauty particles, top quarks, and neutrinos, the articles also dealing with electroweak physics, quantum chromodynamics, supersymmetry, and dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking. Violations of fundamental symmetries such as time reversal invariance are discussed in the context of neutral kaons, beauty particles, electric dipole moments, and parity violation in atoms. The physics of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and of quark masses are described in some detail, both from the standpoint of present and future experimental knowledge and from a more fundamental viewpoint, where physicists are still searching for the correct theory.

Book Description
This book presents material that includes introductory reviews of astrophysics, the status of electroweak theories, Higgs searches, and precision tests of the standard model. Recent results on CP violation from CERN's NA48 experiment are discussed, along with the most recent results from the Babar and Belle experiments at the B factories at SLAC in the US and KEK in Japan. Following that are theoretical talks on heavy quark decays and non-perturbative QCD. There are also discussions on QCD results from CERN's LEP and DESY's HERA colliders. Pre-conference presentations cover applications of the field in the environmental and medical domains.

Book Description
CP violation was first observed in 1964, but only in 1999 did we gain much greater experimental insight. Direct CP violation finally appeared in the form of ε′/ε in the K system. Indirect CP violation in B → J/Ψ Ks decay, the raison d'être for construction of e+e- B factories, was first sniffed out at the proton-antiproton collider. The asymmetric B factories — BABAR at SLAC and BELLE at KEK — were completed, while the symmetric B factory at Cornell was upgraded to CLEO-III. It seems that everyone is positioning himself for the great competition on “B Physics and CP Violation”, racing to unravel the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, especially the size and origin of CP phases. The change of millennium provides a dramatic backdrop. To have intensive discussions at the technical level, to create broader interest in the subject, and to maximize interaction between experimenters and theorists, this book starts with the status of B factories: accelerator, detector and physics analysis. Following an overview of B physics and the CKM matrix, it delves into the details of lifetime, spectroscopy and decays, with even more specialized discussions on rare decays, direct and indirect CP violation, factorization and final state interactions, determination of unitarity phases, etc. Topics on ε′/ε, rare K decay, charm and hyperon systems, and various T, CP and CPT tests are also discussed at length. The book closes with the outlook for hadron machines and the prospects for new physics. A special feature is that there are two summary talks, one on experiment and the other on theory. The book is further augmented by two dozen excellent contributed talks.
