The Fire-resistance Rating of Loadbearing Brick Walls Constructed with 110mm Extruded Clay Bricks and Rendered on Both Sides with 19mm of Cement-lime Plaster
Author: S. M. Byrne
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780642910547
Category : Brick walls
Languages : en
Pages : 5
Book Description
This report describes two fire-resistance tests carried out at EBS. In each case, the wall tested was built from standard extruded clay bricks with manufacturing dimensions 230 mm x 110 mm x 76 mm. The walls were 3 m high x 3 m wide and were plastered on both sides with cement render 19 mm thick. The object of the tests was to determine the fire-resistance rating of such walls. At present, the deemed-to-comply provisions of regulations based on the Australian Model Uniform Building Code do not list a rating for rendered walls 110 mm thick used as loadbearing walls. Table 20.10 of the AMUBC confers a fire-resistance rating of 2 hours on a non-loadbearing 110-mm wall of extruded clay bricks rendered 19 mm both sides. It seemed likely that loadbearing walls with the same thickness would achieve a 2-hour rating. The tests were part of a more comprehensive EBS project in which they are numbered LB27A and LB27B.
