Book Description
Excerpt from Experiments on Copper Crusher Cylinders The dynamic method consists of determining the velocities of the gun in recoil or of the Shot at different points of the bore. The difference of the velocities divided by the corresponding differences of the time equal the acceleration. The pressure required to produce the observed acceleration in a body. Whose mass is that of the gun or of the projectile is obtained by multi plying the acceleration by the mass. The crusher-gage method was proposed in 1868 by Noble, and up to the present time is regarded as the most convenient known method for obtaining an idea of the relative values of pressures in guns.
