In addition, the research will enable the Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue and Building Department to implement and maintain a city-wide program to properly prepare for, respond to, and recover from a major disaster, whether it be natural or manmade. The results of this research made it evident that many fire departments lack the programs, procedures, and financial support necessary to maintain effective emergency management programs. It is clear that the fire service needs to address the responsibilities and concerns associated with being prepared for major disasters.
