Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy
Author: Roberto Alexandre Dezena
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030286576
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 114
Book Description
Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is the most widely performed neuroendoscopic procedure around the world. Several scientific papers appear in the scientific literature every month, with an increasing number, given the great interest neuroendoscopy has aroused as well as controversies about certain aspects of endoscopic third ventriculostomy. With this reasoning, the goal of this book is to be a reference in the revision of classic concepts and scientifically proven aspects about the indications and techniques of endoscopic third ventriculostomy, as well as new neuroendoscopic tendencies. The book is structured in 2 parts and into 7 chapters. Part I – Classic Concepts – comprises the first 2 chapters, covering general aspects of neuroendoscopy such as historical notes, endoscopic anatomy and ventricular system physiology. Part II – State-of-the-Art – comprises chapters 3 to 7. From chapters 3 to 6 the book will discuss general principles of endoscopic ventricular technique and the applications of endoscopic third ventriculostomy in different age groups, and its association to choroid plexus coagulation. Chapter 7 deals with alternative ways of communicating the ventricular system with the cisterns of the subarachnoid space. All chapters are richly illustrated with high resolution images; there are links to online access to demonstrative surgical videos. Designed for neurosurgeons at every level, the book will be unique in the market, as there is no similar book in the current scientific literature that specifically discusses endoscopic third ventriculostomy in its broadest sense.

Neuroanatomy

Publisher: OUP USA

Languages : en
Pages : 477
Book Description
If you can't draw it, you don't know it:" that was the rule of the late neuroanatomist William DeMyer, MD. Yet books do not encourage us to draw and redraw neuroanatomy. This book teaches neuroanatomy through step-by-step instruction of how to draw neuroanatomical pathways and structures. Its instructive language is highly engaging. Users draw neuroanatomical structures and pathways in several steps so they are remembered and use mental and physical mnemonics to demonstrate difficult anatomical rotations and directional pathways. Many neuroanatomy textbooks are great references, but fail to provide a working knowledge of neuroanatomy, and many neuroanatomy handbooks provide bedside pearls, but are too concise to be fully satisfactory. This instructional workbook teaches a comprehensive, but practical approach to neuroanatomy; it includes references where necessary but steers users toward key clinical features.

Key Concepts in MIN - Intracerebral Hemorrhage Evacuation
Author: Klaus Dieter Maria Resch
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030906299
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 470
Book Description
This book adds in chapter 1 and 2 the MIN-key techniques Laser and sealing, completing the 3 MIN-key techniques of the first volume. In chapter 3 the evolution of anatomy to a key-concept of MIN is described, presenting theory and reality of anatomical perspectives that can be used by the MIN-surgeon directly in the OR. Anatomy must be elaborated according to Gestalt-Theory to become a Key of MIN. Still anatomy is the "House of Medicine”, giving a mental place to all knowledge, theories and biological functions. The "surgical simulation concept" of chapter 4 as trainings environment follows, also as a key-concept of MIN. In this chapter we draw the line from Gestalt-Anatomy to a Surgical Simulation Application in Pathological Anatomy exemplified in aneurysm cases. Chapter 5 presents the best preservation technique of anatomical perishable matter, forming durable, dry and odorless specimen of unknown precision and beauty. The scientific value of this unique technique and the benefit for MIN are shown by many examples. With the Plastination gallery of chapter 6 the best head-plastinates and sheet-plastinates of head and brain complete the volume. Many of the specimen have been shown around the globe in the famous exhibitions “body worlds“ (Prof. Dr. G. v. Hagens/Inventor of Plastination).

Anterior Skull Base Tumors
Author: P. Nicolai
Publisher: Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers
ISBN: 3318066702
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 266
Book Description
In recent years, interest in the management of anterior skull base tumors has been fostered by the introduction and subsequent rapid expansion of indications of transnasal endoscopic techniques. In parallel, extraordinary progress has been made in all the other disciplines which are involved in the complex process of managing anterior skull base tumors, leading to substantial improvements in diagnosis and treatment. The anterior skull base can be involved in a large variety of tumors of a varying nature and histology, which in the majority of cases originate from adjacent anatomic sites. In fact, primary lesions of the anterior skull base mainly include osteoma and other tumors originating from bone and cartilage. Tumors involving the anterior skull base have their origin prevalently in the sinonasal tract, but lesions developing on the intracranial site, such as meningiomas, may also extend caudally to encroach upon this area. All these lesions are rare, which means that the pertinent literature does not include prospective studies or treatment guidelines based on a high level of evidence. In view of the extreme histological variability of lesions involving the anterior skull base, much emphasis has been placed on addressing the different nuances of treatment in relation to histology, especially for malignant tumors. The chapters focusing on surgery provide divergent views on selection criteria for a specific surgical technique, which is the aim of this publication.

Book Description
"The combined endoscopic endonasal, transethmoidal, transcribriform approach with endoscope-assisted supraorbital craniotomy is a minimally invasive approach that can be used as an alternative to the classic transcranial, transfacial, or combined craniofacial approaches to lesions of the anterior cranial fossa. This approach is best used for lesions that extend anteriorly to the frontal sinus, laterally beyond the lamina papyracea, and inferiorly into the ethmoid sinus. This chapter details the approach as well as closure of the combined endoscopic endonasal, transethmoidal, transcribriform approach with endoscope-assisted supraorbital craniotomy"--
