Maize productivity in Ghana
Author: Ragasa, Catherine
Publisher: Intl Food Policy Res Inst
ISBN:
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 4
Book Description
Maize is an important food crop in Ghana, accounting for more than 50 percent of the countrys total cereal production. The Ghana Grains Development Project (19791997) and the Food Crops Development Project (20002008) made major investments to improve maize yield. Despite these efforts, the average maize yield in Ghana remains one of the lowest in the world, much lower than the average for Africa south of the Sahara.

The Measurement of Productive Efficiency
Author: Harold O. Fried
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0195361105
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 442
Book Description
This work focuses on measuring and explaining producer performance. The authors view performance as a function of the state of technology and economic efficiency, with the former defining a frontier relation between inputs and outputs; the former incorporating waste and misallocation relative to this frontier. They show that insights can be gained by allowing for the possibility of a divergence between the economic objective and actual performance, and by associating this inefficiency with causal variables subject to managerial or policy influence. Derived from a series of lectures held on techniques and applications of the three approaches to the construction of production frontiers and measure of efficiency, this work will be an essential reference to scholars of a variety of disciplines who are involved with quantitative methods or policy.

Identification of Factors Which Influence the Technical Inefficiency of Indian Farmers
Author: Tim Coelli
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
The agricultural production of Indian farmers is investigated using a stochastic frontier production function which incorporates a model for the technical inefficiency effects. Farm-level data from the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) are used. Variables considered in the model for the inefficiency effects include the age and level of education of the farmers, farm size and the year of observation. The parameters of the stochastic frontier production function are estimated simultaneously with those involved in the model for the inefficiency effects. This approach differs from the usual practice of predicting farm-level inefficiency effects and then regressing these upon various factors in a second-stage of modelling. The results indicate that the above factors do have a significant influence upon the inefficiency effects of farmers in two of the three villages considered.

Maize in India
Author:
Publisher: CIMMYT
ISBN: 9706481176
Category : Corn
Languages : en
Pages : 50
Book Description
Maize is a promising substitute crop allowing diversification from the rice-wheat system in the upland areas of India. The crop has high production potential, pr ovided the available improved hybrids and composites reach the farming community. This study found that major biotic production constraints were Echinocloa, Cynodon dactylon, rats, and termites, which reduced maize production levels by more than 50%. Other important abiotic and biotic stresses listed in descending order of importance were: caterpillars, water stress, stem borers, weevils, zinc deficiency, rust, seed/seedling blight, cutworm, and leaf blight. Non-availability of improved seeds, inadequate input markets, inef fective technology dissemination, and lack of collective action were the principal socio-economic constraints.

Economics Efficiency of Maize Production in Gudeya Bila District, Ethiopia
Author: Tolesa Tesema
Publisher: GRIN Verlag
ISBN: 3346571483
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 18
Book Description
Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2021 in the subject Agrarian Studies, , language: English, abstract: Farming is the way of life for smallholder farmers of Ethiopian which is characterized with low productivity. Thus poor are failing to achieve rapid economic growth due to food insecurity. Hence the best possible means of achieving economic development is through increasing sustainable allocation resource efficiency. This study employed stochastic frointer approach to assess the levels of efficiency and Tobit model to assess the determinants of efficiency by collecting data from 154 sample household in Gudeya Bila district, western parts of Ethiopia.
