Book Description
This combined volume offers Hatha Yoga instructors and studios, adult education classes and diversity-studies seminar leaders a set of five study guides, including Easing into the Bhagavad Gita, Easing into Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Easing into the Dhammapada, Easing into the Mahabharata and Easing into the Ramayana. These classic texts form the core of India's spiritual backbone and are required reading in most Hatha Yoga certification programs. I've taught out of these books for years, and the feedback from students has been consistently positive. Each topic area includes a short essay highlighting one of ten great ideas, an original interpretive poem, five questions to take you deeper into the study and resources to further your inquiry. It's easy for class leaders to encourage students to work through the questions in dyads or in larger dialogue groups. The capping poem can be read aloud to close the section of study for that time or day or serve as examples for right-brained creative approaches to the material. Each section also works very well as an outline for one-day retreats and can serve as a primer for students of comparative religion, pointing them toward further in-depth research topics. Over the course of the coming years, I'll be adding titles about the Hatha Yoga Pradapika, Sri Shankara's Crest Jewel of Discrimination, and the Vedas as well as overviews of the writings of Sri Vivekananda, Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Aurobindo, Kabir and more. For general classroom and adult educational gatherings, be sure to check out the complete Easing Into Collection of titles. From Druidry to the Tao te Ching, these books provide thoughtful but brief introductions to some of the classics and traditions of the world. Watch for multi-media programs on Udemy.com coming soon.Enjoy!

Book Description
This book critically analyses classical Indian literature and explores the philosophical, literary, and cultural landscapes which have emerged in response to ancient Indian texts. It highlights the relevance of these texts and studies and how they have come to influence modern Indian literature in various ways. The authors look at classical literature both as a theoretical premise that primarily seeks to develop new knowledge and as a sphere of serious modern/postmodern critical attention. The volume features essays on key texts including Abhijnanasakuntalam, The Cilappatikaram: A Tale of An Anklet, Mrichchakatika, Panchatantra, and Mahabharata. A useful guide to ancient Indian texts, the book will be indispensable for students and researchers of mythology and classical literature, literary and critical theory, Indian literature, Sanskrit studies, and South Asian studies.

Book Description
A compilation of love stories and poems from the classical literature and folklore of India Set in regions of great natural beauty where Kamadeva, the god of love, picks his victims with consummate ease, these stories and lyrics celebrate the myriad aspects of love. In addition to relatively well-known works like Kalidasa's Meghadutam and Prince Ilango Adigal's Shilappadikaram, the collection features lesser-known writers of ancient India like Damodaragupta (eighth century AD), whose 'Loves of Haralata and Dundarasena' is about a high-born man's doomed affair with a courtesan; Janna (twelfth century), whose Tale of the Glory-Bearer is extracted here for the story of a queen who betrays her handsome husband for a mahout, reputed to be the ugliest man in the kingdom; and the Sanskrit poets Amaru and Mayaru (seventh century), whose lyrics display an astonishing perspective on the tenderness, the fierce passion and the playful savagery of physical love. Also featured are charming stories of Hindu gods and goddesses in love, and nineteenth-century retellings of folk tales from different regions of the country like Kashmir, Punjab, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. Both passionate and sensuous in its content, this book is sure to appeal to the romantic in all of us.
