The Meade Peak Phosphatic Shale Member of the Permian Phosphoria Formation in the Snake River Range, Bonneville and Teton Counties, Idaho, Lincoln and Teton Counties, Wyoming
Author: John R. Benham
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Phosphate rock
Languages : en
Pages : 160
Book Description
"The thesis area covers 1,000 square kilometers within the Snake River Range of southeastern Idaho and western Wyoming. There are 24 geologic formations and units ranging from Cambrian to Tertiary in age. Most have been deformed from thrust faulting and folding. This intense structural deformation produced the overthrust belt of which the Snake River Range is a part. Phosphate rock in the thesis area is found within the Meade Peak Phosphatic Shale Member of the Permian Phosphoria Formation. In 1980, 13 trenches were dug across the Meade Peak and 317 samples were collected and described. Additional phosphate rock resource informa- tion was taken from published works by the U.S. Geological Survey. Analytical results from all work show a total of 54,535,000 tonnes of indicated and 34,717,000 tonnes of inferred phosphate rock resources. Detailed sample descriptions show no correlation between the different Meade Peak lithologies and phosphate rock zones. There is also no stratigraphic correlation of the phosphate rock zones"--Document.
