Book Description
LA PREMIERE MODELISATION TRAITE D'UN PROBLEME D'ECOULEMENT DE FLUIDE AUTOUR D'UN CORPS SANS EPAISSEUR EN UTILISANT LA THEORIE DES PROFILS PORTANTS. ON CONSIDERE DEUX REGIONS : UNE LOCALISEE DANS LE VOISINAGE DU CORPS S ET L'AUTRE LOIN DE L'OBSTACLE. EN AMONT DU CORPS L'ECOULEMENT EST CONSIDERE UNIFORME, STATIONNAIRE, INVISCIDE ET PEU COMPRESSIBLE. ON UTILISE COMME METHODE DE DISCRETISATION, CELLE OBTENUE PAR UNE METHODE D'EQUATIONS INTEGRALES SUR LA SURFACE S ET UNE FORMULATION VITESSE EN METHODE DES SINGULARITES. PUIS ON DETERMINE LES MOUVEMENTS DE FLUIDE REEL (ON TIENT COMPTE DE LA VISCOSITE) DANS UN VOLUME TRIDIMENSIONNEL AVEC DES CONDITIONS AUX LIMITES ABSORBANTES SUR LES FRONTIERES ARTIFICIELLES IMPOSEES POUR RENDRE LE DOMAINE FINI. LA MODELISATION DU PROBLEME PHYSIQUE FAIT APPARAITRE UN SYSTEME D'EQUATIONS AUX DERIVEES PARTIELLES, CELUI DE NAVIER-STOKES. LA METHODE D'APPROXIMATION NUMERIQUE UTILISEE EST CELLE DES ELEMENTS FINIS. ON FAIT L'ANALYSE DU SYSTEME DE NAVIER STOKES INCOMPRESSIBLE PUIS D'UN PROBLEME LINEAIRE ASSOCIE A UN POINT FIXE APPROCHE PAR PENALISATION, CE QUI A L'AVANTAGE D'AVOIR L'UNICITE DE LA SOLUTION SANS CONDITION SUR LA VISCOSITE. CE SYSTEME EST AUSSI IDENTIQUE A CELUI MIS EN UVRE DANS LE NUMERIQUE. ON OBTIENT UN RESULTAT DE REGULARITE POUR LA SOLUTION DU SYSTEME PRECEDENT, S AYANT UN INTERIEUR, EN UTILISANT LA THEORIE DE L'EXTRACTEUR. APRES ON DEVELOPPE UN ALGORITHME DE CALCUL DE SENSIBILITE DE L'ECOULEMENT PAR RAPPORT A UNE VARIATION VIRTUELLE DE LA FORME DU CORPS. POUR CELA, ON CHOISIT UN CRITERE A OPTIMISER QUI EST UNE FONCTIONNELLE NON QUADRATIQUE ET NON ISOTROPE, LA FINESSE. ET ON CARACTERISE LA SEMI-DERIVEE EULERIENNE DE LA FINESSE, AINSI ON CONSIDERE L'ETAT DIRECT COMME UNE CONTRAINTE ET L'ETAT ADJOINT COMME LE MULTIPLICATEUR DE LAGRANGE ASSOCIE A CETTE CONTRAINTE. CE DERNIER A L'ORIGINALITE DE SATISFAIRE UN PROBLEME DE DIRICHLET NON HOMOGENE CONTRAIREMENT AUX CAS DES FONCTIONNELLES DEFINIES SUR L'ESPACE DE L'ENERGIE OU LES SYSTEMES SONT HOMOGENES. AINSI ON ABOUTIT A UN NOUVEAU PROBLEME DE MIN - MAX SUR UN CONVEXE K.

Book Description
Composite materials are widely used in industry: well-known examples of this are the superconducting multi-filamentary composites which are used in the composition of optical fibres. Such materials are complicated to model, as different points in the material will have different properties. The mathematical theory of homogenization is designed to deal with this problem, and hence is used to model the behaviour of these important materials. This book provides a self-contained and authoritative introduction to the subject for graduates and researchers in the field.

Book Description
This monograph addresses the state of the art of reduced order methods for modeling and computational reduction of complex parametrized systems, governed by ordinary and/or partial differential equations, with a special emphasis on real time computing techniques and applications in computational mechanics, bioengineering and computer graphics. Several topics are covered, including: design, optimization, and control theory in real-time with applications in engineering; data assimilation, geometry registration, and parameter estimation with special attention to real-time computing in biomedical engineering and computational physics; real-time visualization of physics-based simulations in computer science; the treatment of high-dimensional problems in state space, physical space, or parameter space; the interactions between different model reduction and dimensionality reduction approaches; the development of general error estimation frameworks which take into account both model and discretization effects. This book is primarily addressed to computational scientists interested in computational reduction techniques for large scale differential problems.

I would also like to acknowledge the help of the editior at Springer-Verlag (Dr. Thomas Ditzinger) for his assistance in bringing this book out in its present form. Finally, I would like to thank my brother, Nicola, for preparing most of the line drawings in both editions. In this edition, I am providing two email addresses for my readers to contact me (pkattan@tedata. net. jo and pkattan@lsu. edu). The old email address that appeared in the ?rst edition was cancelled in 2004. December 2006 Peter I. Kattan PrefacetotheFirstEdition 3 This is a book for people who love ?nite elements and MATLAB . We will use the popular computer package MATLAB as a matrix calculator for doing ?nite element analysis. Problems will be solved mainly using MATLAB to carry out the tedious and lengthy matrix calculations in addition to some manual manipulations especially when applying the boundary conditions. In particular the steps of the ?nite element method are emphasized in this book. The reader will not ?nd ready-made MATLAB programsforuseasblackboxes. Insteadstep-by-stepsolutionsof?niteelementpr- lems are examined in detail using MATLAB.

Book Description
The European DayWater project has developed a prototype of an Adaptive Decision Support System (ADSS) related to urban stormwater pollution source control. The DayWater ADSS greatly facilitates decision-making for stormwater source control, which is currently impeded by the large number of stakeholders involved and by the necessary multidisciplinary knowledge. This book presents the results of this project, providing new insights into both technical and management issues. The main objectives of its technical chapters are pollution source control modelling, risk and impact assessment, and evaluation and comparison of best management practices. It also covers management aspects, such as the analysis of the decision-making processes in stormwater source control, at a European scale, and stormwater management strategies in general. The combination of scientific-technical and socio-managerial knowledge, with the strong cooperation of numerous end-users, reflects the innovative character of this book which includes actual applications of the ADSS prototype in significant case studies. DayWater: an Adaptive Decision Support System for Urban Stormwater Management contains 26 chapters collectively prepared by DayWater scientific partners and end-users associated with this European Research and Development project. It includes: A general presentation of the DayWater Adaptive Decision Support System (ADSS) structure and operation modes A detailed description of the major components of this ADSS prototype The assessment of its components in significant case studies in France, Germany and Sweden The proceedings of the International Conference on Decision Support Systems for Integrated Urban Water Management, held in Paris on 3-4 November 2005. The book presents the ADSS prototype including a combination of freely accessible on-line databases, guidance documents, “road maps” and modelling or multi-criteria analysis tools. As demonstrated in several significant case studies the challenge for stormwater managers is to make the benefits of urban stormwater management visible to society, resulting in active co-operation of a diversity of stakeholders. Only then, will sustainable management succeed. DayWater: an Adaptive Decision Support System for Urban Stormwater Management advances this cause of sustainable urban management through Urban stormwater management, and makes achievable (by means of risk and vulnerability tools which are included) the goal of integrated urban water management (IUWM).
