Book Description
This book shows an independent metering electro-hydraulic control system involving its flexible hardware layouts, complex software control, representative products and applications. The book includes one chapter introducing the background and motivation of the independent metering electro-hydraulic control system. It also includes one chapter to summarize various hardware layouts involving the utilized hydraulic components and circuits, as well as analyze their advantages and disadvantages. It emphatically consists of four chapters demonstrating the detailed multivariable control strategies from three levels: load, valve and pump, together with fault-tolerant control under the fault condition. It includes a last chapter, in which products of independent metering control valve and their applications in some typical heavy-duty mobile machinery are collective works of reviews illustrative of recent advances. This book is interesting and useful to a wide readership in the various fields of fluid power transmission and control.

Book Description
The goal of this work is to develop mathematical models, stability criteria, and control designs for a two-stage poppet valve system with a simple back-side pipeline condition that may be used in a valve stack to create an independent metering function for a hydraulic circuit. First, this system is modeled as a nonlinear open-loop model as well as a linear one. The completely linear form of the flow force acting on the poppet head is derived from simplified Navier-Stokes Equations. Second, four control methods that comprise modified PI control, LQG control, H [mobius] control, and nonlinear feedback control are used to make a closed-loop poppet system. The nonlinear controller is only applied to the nonlinear system and certified by Lyapunov theorem to be globally asymptotically stable. The basic guidelines for selecting control gains are derived by Routh-Hurwitz method. Finally, important system parameters, especially the transient flow force and two leakages, are discussed to reveal their effects on the open-loop system stability. Simulations results illustrate that the closed-loop poppet system with either the modified PI controller or the nonlinear controller can track the desired poppet displacement represented by a sine wave with 10 HZ frequency. The LQG controller and the H [mobius] controller having fixed weighting functions or matrices are not flexible enough to satisfythe global nonlinear systems, though they exhibit the acceptable regulation behavior.

Book Description
In this work modern robust control systems are designed and compared to standard techniques for a hydraulic implement system. The system includes an independent metering valve (IMV) and a variable displacement pump. The IMV is a powerful and versatile valve assembly. The IMV's inherent complexity makes classic control methods difficult to design. Parameter variations and unmodeled dynamics can cause sluggish performance and instability in some cases. By applying modern control, robustness can be improved relative to classical and singleinput/ single-output (SISO) control design techniques. Techniques such as H[subscript infinity] control have been proven effective in many multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) applications. Linear analysis shows improvement in robustness characteristics of the IMV system over a conventional PID control scheme. Nonlinear simulations show favorable system response and similarly positive robustness traits for the modern control designs.

Book Description
This research explores valve design, dynamic modeling, and techniques to achieve flow control for a forced-feedback metering poppet valve system. In particular, nonlinear and linear models of a forced feedback configuration are developed and tuned through the use of root locus techniques. Typical steady state conditions as well as extreme high and low pressure drops are simulated in attempts to uncover instabilities and other possible undesirable performance characteristics of the valve. It is shown that by using a variable inlet orifice to the control volume as opposed to a constant orifice, desired system bandwidth and stability can be achieved. Open loop valve designs are then simulated with several electronic control schemes which incorporate feedback of load pressure and in some cases valve flow. An observer design is investigated as a means of providing flow feedback without additional sensor costs. Electronic flow control schemes are compared to standard mechanical pressure compensation and finally a robust analysis is provided for a chosen electronic control scheme.

Book Description
The safe and reliable performance of many systems with which we interact daily has been achieved through the analysis and management of risk. From complex infrastructures to consumer durables, from engineering systems and technologies used in transportation, health, energy, chemical, oil, gas, aerospace, maritime, defence and other sectors, the management of risk during design, manufacture, operation and decommissioning is vital. Methods and models to support risk-informed decision-making are well established but are continually challenged by technology innovations, increasing interdependencies, and changes in societal expectations. Risk, Reliability and Safety contains papers describing innovations in theory and practice contributed to the scientific programme of the European Safety and Reliability conference (ESREL 2016), held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland (25—29 September 2016). Authors include scientists, academics, practitioners, regulators and other key individuals with expertise and experience relevant to specific areas. Papers include domain specific applications as well as general modelling methods. Papers cover evaluation of contemporary solutions, exploration of future challenges, and exposition of concepts, methods and processes. Topics include human factors, occupational health and safety, dynamic and systems reliability modelling, maintenance optimisation, uncertainty analysis, resilience assessment, risk and crisis management.

Book Description
The subject of the first volume is the issues related to the components and systems of transport machines. Motor vehicle systems tests are described: suspension dampers, steering, brakes and differentials. Design issues of machine elements operating in extreme conditions are also addressed. The possibility of increasing wear resistance in high-speed and ethanol-powered engines is analyzed. An extensive part covers the dynamics of hydraulic, electro-hydraulic and mechanical-hydraulic systems and the issues of diagnostics and automatic control in such systems. Aspects of the regional system of motor transport, public transport and transport and logistics of agricultural machinery are also addressed. The volume also examines selected technical and economic issues of gas transport. Topics on modelling of production processes with the transport of products are a complement.
