Book Description
Veteran journalist Joe Strupp has covered numerous murders, corrupt officials, and thousands of other crimes in his 35-year career. But the most violent one struck close to his family and remains a powerful mystery. On July 29, 1962, when four of Joe's relatives were found shot to death in their South Dakota home. The killer: Joe's great uncle, John Bowman. The victims: Bowman, his wife, and their two teen-age sons. The result: a shocking tale of simmering tensions, mixed motives, and deadly outcomes that still harbors a mystery: why did it happen? When Joe first heard about the tragedy 20 years ago, he began a long and intense investigation into the family secret that revealed a tangled history of mental illness, alcoholism, and still-unanswered questions as to why this horrific crime occurred. Why did a quiet, frustrated father with no history of violence kill his family in cold blood and then take his own life, leaving no note of explanation? Why did the priest who administered last rites leave the church soon after? Why was the killer allowed to leave a mental hospital after years of troubling incidents? And why did Joe's family keep it secret for 40 years? Death on St. Charles Street tells the story of this vicious killing, the decade of personal battles and strained relations that led to it, and the impact it had on survivors for decades to come.

Book Description
When I was a young man, I loved traditional English murder mysteries, the ones in which all the suspects were assembled at the end of the book and some wily detective explained the reasoning and clues that led to the identity of the murderer. It was so exciting to watch the detective eliminate suspects and discard certain clues while embracing the clues, which led to the actual murderer. I would then reread the sections involving the murderer and see how the author had set up the clues that most times had eluded me. I had so much fun! I read all those mysteries and unfortunately have not found any who use that dramatic format, so I decided to write one myself. In Murder in St. Charles, the patriarch of a large, dysfunctional family is murdered on Christmas night in front of his adult children, sister-in-law, her boyfriend, and three members of his staff. Max Marten is a successful lawyer whose egocentric personality has made him many enemies—some in the legal community, others in his own family. The path to finding Max Marten’s murderer is psychologically complex and somewhat overwhelming for the small-town police force tasked with solving the crime until criminal psychologist Ray Lynn Park is brought in to consult on the case. It is Ray Lynn who solves the case through the use of psychology, intuition, karma, and a little bit of luck. And most importantly, she uses the little cells in her brain in the best tradition of detectives that went before her. Enjoy the book. I loved writing it.

Book Description
A true crime history of wrongful arrest, obsessive revenge, and an infamous murder in New Orleans at the turn of the 20th century. In July of 1903, the newly elected District Attorney J. Ward Gurley was shot to death in his office by a former client. After killing Gurley, Lewis Lyons turned his gun on himself. When his suicide attempt failed, Lyons became the subject of an explosive murder trial and sentenced to death. Once a hardworking family man, Lyons’ downward spiral began years before, when he was wrongly arrested for the theft of a diamond shirt stud. Death Over a Diamond Stud recounts the gripping true story of the first judicial murder of the 20th century. Gurley’s murder sent shock waves through New Orleans not only because of the brutal and brazen nature of the killing, but because the suspect’s name had previously been in the city newspapers. Author Christopher G. Peña vividly recounts Lyons’ journey from innocent man to the cold-blooded killer of his own attorney.

Book Description
The stakes couldn’t be higher in the newest novel in the New York Times bestselling, pulse-pounding Jane Yellowrock series. Jane Yellowrock is the queen of the vampires, and that makes her a target as she fights to maintain control and keep peace in the city of New Orleans. She has enemies at every turn, because vampires live forever, and they keep their grudges alive with them. That includes the Heir, the vampire sire of the Pellissier bloodline, which gave rise to Leo Pellissier himself—Jane’s old boss and the former master of the city. With the Heir and all the forces of darkness he can muster arrayed against her, Jane will need all the help she can get. She’ll find it in her city, her friends, her found family, and, of course, the Beast inside of her.
