Book Description
We report the results of a CP violation analysis of the decay B{sup {+-}} → D{sub??−?°}K{sup {+-}}, where D{sub?+?−?°} indicates a neutral D meson detected in the final state?+?−?°, excluding K{sub S}°?°. The analysis makes use of 324 million e+e− → B{bar B} events recorded by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e+e− storage ring. By analyzing the?+?−?° Dalitz plot distribution and the B{sup {+-}} → D{sub?+?−?°} K{sup {+-}} branching fraction and decay rate asymmetry, we calculate parameters related to the phase? of the CKM unitarity triangle. We also measure the magnitudes and phases of the components of the D° → {pi}+{pi}−{pi}° decay amplitude.

Book Description
We report a measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in B° → (??)° →??−?° decays using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis. The results are obtained from a data sample of 375 million?(4S) → B{bar B} decays, collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We measure 26 coefficients of the bilinear form-factor terms occurring in the time-dependent decay rate of the B° meson. We derive the physically relevant quantities from these coefficients. In particular, we measure a constraint on the angle? of the Unitarity Triangle.

Book Description
Particle physicists study the smallest particles and most basic rules of their interactions in humankind's current scope. The Charm Analysis Working Group (CWG) of the BaBar Collaboration studies decays involving the charm quark. They currently study mixing in D decays, an interesting and poorly understood phenomenon in current physics models. We, as part of the CWG, investigated the plausibility of using Dalitz plots and the BaBar analysis framework to study mixing in Wrong Sign (WS) D° 2!K[pi][pi]° decays. Others in the CWG have studied mixing in the 2-body decay, D° 2!K[pi]. The 3-body decay analyzed with the RooFitDalitz analysis package and Dalitz plots provides more information and another way of separating Doubly Cabibbo Suppressed Decays (DCSD) from mixing--which share the same end products. Through doing many simulations, we have demonstrated the usefulness of this approach. We selected D° 2!K[pi][pi]° events from Simulation Production run No. 4 (SP4) and BaBar's run 1 and run 2. We made Dalitz plots with this data. Now that we better understand Dalitz plots and software, we plan to select WS D° 2!K[pi][pi]° events and perform rate fits as discussed in BaBar Analysis Document (BAD) No. 443, as well as fits for several different decay times and resonances, in order to further distinguish DCSD from mixing.

Book Description
The authors present preliminary results on the Dalitz plot analysis of B° --> K?−?° decays. The data sample comprises 213 million?(4S) --> B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. They report measurements of the inclusive branching fraction, quasi-two-body fractions and CP-violating charge asymmetries for intermediate states including K*(892)+?− and?(770)−K+. Observations of B° decays to the K?S-wave intermediate states, K0*(1430)+?− and K0*(1430)°?°, are reported. Evidence of the decay B° --> K*(892)°?° is seen. They set upper limits at 90% confidence level on branching fractions of the nonresonant and other less significant intermediate states.

Book Description
The Standard Model (SM) explains CP violation in terms of the CKM matrix. The BABAR experiment was designed mainly to test the CKM model in B decays. B decays that proceed through b → s loop diagrams, of which B → KKK decays are an example, are sensitive to new physics effects that could lead to deviations from the CKM predictions for CP violation. We present studies of CP violation in the decays B+ → K+K-K+, B+ → KS0KS0K+, and B0 → K+K-KS0, using a Dalitz plot amplitude analysis. These studies are based on approximately 470 million B$\bar{B}$ decays collected by BABAR at the PEP-II collider at SLAC. We perform measurements of time-dependent CP violation in B0 → K+K-KS0, including B0 → [Phi]KS0. We measure a CP-violating phase [beta]eff ([Phi]KS0) = 0.36 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 rad., in agreement with the SM. This is the world's most precise measurement of this quantity. We also measure direct CP asymmetries in all three decay modes, including the direct CP asymmetry ACP ([Phi]K+) = (12.8 ± 4.4 ± 1.3)%, which is 2.8 sigma away from zero. This measurement is in tension with the SM, which predicts an asymmetry of a few percent. We also study the resonant and nonresonant features in the B → KKK Dalitz plots. We find that the hypothetical scalar fX(1500) resonance, introduced by prior analyses to explain an unknown peak in the mKK spectrum, cannot adequately describe the data. We conclude instead that the fX(1500) can be explained as the sum of the f0(1500), f'2(1525), and f0(1710) resonances, removing the need for the hypothetical fX(1500). We also find that an exponential nonresonant model, used by previous analyses to describe the broad nonresonant feature seen in B → KKK decays, cannot fully model the data. We introduce a new nonresonant model that contains more free parameters, allows for phase motion, and contains both S-wave and P-wave components.
