Book Description
Contributions to Algebra: A Collection of Papers Dedicated to Ellis Kolchin provides information pertinent to commutative algebra, linear algebraic group theory, and differential algebra. This book covers a variety of topics, including complex analysis, logic, K-theory, stochastic matrices, and differential geometry. Organized into 29 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the influence that Ellis Kolchin's work on the Galois theory of differential fields has had on the development of differential equations. This text then discusses the background model theoretic work in differential algebra and discusses the notion of model completions. Other chapters consider some properties of differential closures and some immediate consequences and include extensive notes with proofs. This book discusses as well the problems in finite group theory in finding the complex finite projective groups of a given degree. The final chapter deals with the finite forms of quasi-simple algebraic groups. This book is a valuable resource for students.

Book Description
This book is an introduction to the theory and application of modes — structures that capture the common underlying algebra of convex sets, affine spaces and certain ordered sets. Modes appear in many branches of mathematics, particularly geometry and combinatorics, and have been used in computer science, economics, physics, and biology. The initial stage of the theory was set out in the authors' research monograph Modal Theory (published in 1985). The present book provides a more complete theory, the result of research conducted during the subsequent 15 years. It contains a clear introduction to selected topics from universal algebra, category theory and model theory, and the foundations of the theory of modes, as well as more advanced topics leading to the forefront of current research in the field. The authors have included a wide range of exercises, usually placed at the end of the section, and indexed alphabetically. Some exercises are simply designed to familiarize readers with the notation and concepts. Others are more difficult, extending the content of the sections in which they appear, and providing a foretaste of further research./a

Book Description
The Crypto ’95 conference was sponsored by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR), in cooperation with the IEEE Computer - ciety Technical Committee on Security and Privacy, and the Computer Science Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara. It took place at the University of California, Santa Barbara, from August 27-31, 1995. This was the fifteenth annual Crypto conference; all have been held at UCSB. For the second time, proceedings were available at the conference. The General Chair, Stafford Tavares, was responsible for local organization and registration. The Program Committee considered 151 papers and selected 36 for pres- tation. There were also two invited talks. Robert Morris, Sr. gave a talk on “Ways of Losing Information,” which included some non-cryptographic means of leaking secrets that are often overlooked by cryptographers. The second talk, “Cryptography - Myths and Realities,” was given by Adi Shamir, this year’s IACR Distinguished Lecturer. Shamir is the second person to receive this honor, the first having been Gus Simmons at Crypto ’94. These proceedings contain revised versions of the 36 contributed talks. Each paper was sent to at least three members of the program committee for c- ments. Revisions were not checked on their scientific aspects. Some authors will write final versions of their papers for publication in refereed journals. Of course, the authors bear full responsibility for the contents of their papers.
