A conceptual design of an 8-ha (20-acre) solar pond electric system is described, including the layout and design of the solar, cooling, and evaporating ponds; the preliminary specifications of mechanical equipment (pumps, piping, heat exchangers, and turbine/generator) and instrumentation; and operational and maintenance procedures.

The chloride control project comprises a 1200-ha (3000-acre) brine impoundment lake to which brine will be pumped from several salty sources in the Wichita River basin. The solar ponds are formed by natural evaporation of the briny water pumped to Truscott. Heat is extracted from the solar ponds and used to drive organic Rankine-cycle (ORC) generators.
