Book Description
CHIHULY OVER VENICE, the project to create chandeliers in the world's great glass centres, began in the tiny Finnish village of Nuutajarvi, north of Helsinki, in June 1995. Working with the artisans of the Hackman factory, well-known for it's production of the great modernist designs of Aalto, Sarpaneva, and other Finnish masters, Chihuly and his American glass blowers created the first of the 14 chandeliers that would be installed in Venice the following year. In this oversized, loose-leaf portfolio, 26 full-collar reproductions document that summer's glass-blowing session -- when the sun never truly set and the energy of the 40 Americans and their Finnish collaborators never dimmed. Russell Johnson's photographs record the chandeliers and installations that temporarily transformed the Finnish landscape into a magical land with chandeliers swaying in the trees and glass 'belugas' bobbing in the waters of Nuutajarvi River. Also included in this artist's portfolio are reproductions of the drawings that inspired the glass works and four of the hundreds of faxes that Chihuly sent to describe that 'wild and wonderful time' in Finland.

Book Description
Bound like an artist's sketchbook this book documents the culmination of this amazing artistic odyssey that took the artist from his Seattle Boathouse hot shop to Nuutajarvi, Finland; Waterford, Ireland; Monterrey, Mexico; and finally Venice to blow glass. In the factories in those locations, Chihuly and his team of American glass blowers worked with native artisans more accustomed to making functional objects than art. Together they created the 14 chandeliers that graced the campos and canals of Venice for a remarkable time in September 1996. In her essay Dana Self, curator of the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, muses on the relationship of Chihuly's glass and 'The Spectacle of Beauty'. She concludes that Chihuly's fantastical explorations demonstrate that beauty does produce a meaningful experience of the world. Writer William Warmus chronicles the culmination of this two-year project with his diary entries. Full-colour photographs record for readers the installations as they were assembled. An extensive chronology traces the artist's career.

Book Description
Chihuly's glass is richly-coloured, extravagantly formed and enormously varied - ranging from chandeliers to spears, 'Seaforms' to 'Macchias', renowned for their organic subtlety and textural refinement. His work, which owes much to the grand tradition of Venetian glass, is put into historical context and his importance in introducing the Venetian style to America is also explored. Drawing on the Museum's historic Renaissance collections and expertise the book also explores the development of the traditional Venetian glass workshop and Chihuly's enormous influence in introducing Venetian glass-makers to the USA. It includes a brief resume of his career and an assessment of his art and its significance. The book shows the enormous variety of glass forms that comprise Chihuly's work as it has developed over the last 30 years. His glass is technically and sculpturally ambitious on a scale unmatched by any other maker.

Book Description
As we stand on the threshold of the new millennium here at the ancient Tower of David, this is my own personal tribute, says Dale Chihuly at the completion of his project in Israel. Fifteen soaring sculptures made from more than ten thousand glass parts blown in France, Japan, the Czech Republic, Finland, Israel, and the United States were specifically created to take advantage of the stone walls of the historic Citadel, as well as the Mediterranean sunlight. This full-size book documents the yearlong exhibition with 117 full-colour reproductions of Chihuly's sculptures, his energetic drawings, and his team as they install the exhibition. These beautiful images are accompanied by Chihuly's affectionate letters to his young son, Jackson, about the joys and challenges of the project and his essay (reprinted with permission from Ariel: The Israel Review of Arts and Letters, vol. 111, 1999) on his inspirations at the site. Also included is an illuminating foreword by Shosh Yaniv, director of the Tower of David Museum of the History of Jerusalem, and a section containing seven insightful reviews of the exhibition. This book offers an opportunity to share in a unique millennium celebration -- a joyous tribute by an artist as he captures the light, history, and essence of one of the greatest cities in the world.

Book Description
Dale Chihuly, the hugely popular artist who works in glass, celebrates his 70th birthday in 2011. Tacoma Art Museum, in his hometown, owns more than 150 examples of his work and is mounting an exhibition in his honor. Both this book and the exhibition showcase Chihuly's enduring interest in the arts and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, which are a major influence on his work. For the first time, Dale Chihuly: A Celebration focuses on the importance of these influences. From Native American baskets to wool trade blankets, the gritty Tacoma of the 1960s, and Puget Sound, this exhibition and book follow Chihuly's development and accomplishments and how he grew and evolved while maintaining close ties to Tacoma. The essay by curator Rock Hushka traces Chihuly's creative process and the ways in which his abiding interest in the American Northwest enriches his work. Praise for Dale Chihuly: A Celebration: "This intimate, thoughtful celebration highlights the influences of nature and nurture on a unique talent." -Publishers Weekly Also Available: Chihuly 2018 Wall Calendar (ISBN: 978-1-4197-2599-9), Chihuly 2018 Weekly Planner (ISBN: 978-1-4197-2598-2), Chihuly 2019 Wall Calendar (ISBN: 978-1-4197-3093-1), Chihuly 2019 Weekly Planner (Engagement Calendar) (ISBN: 978-1-4197-3094-8)
