Book Description
Excerpt from The British Florist, Vol. 2 of 6 Which it will appear as much the handmaid of science as the superintendent of art: and the spirit of these men will be caught up and delighted in by other readers, until floriculture shall become as expanding to the mind, and warming to the finer feelings, as its practical results are delightful to the eye. In every flower there is, as it were, a divinity; and by means such as those which we have mentioned, and take some credit to ourselves for bringing forward, this divinity is induced to hold with mortals that delightful converse, which raises man from the earth, and points his faith and his hope to those regions, the flowers of which know no winter. Book Description
Be it a single delicate bud in a simple clear vase or an explosion of colorful blossoms, a brilliant bouquet accents an atmosphere and brightens the mood like nothing else. The beauty of flowers has inspired artists, designers, poets, and myriad other creators for centuries: the Dutch masters of the 1600s and impressionist painters from Manet to Van Gogh, photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, botanical illustrator Georg Dionysius Ehret, even the inimitable Andy Warhol. Book Description
Excerpt from Floral Decoration Blue and orange are not slwyys pleasing because the orange is so vivid that to be used satisfactorily it must have a colorless environment but reduce one or both of these colors to a tint and the result will be quite different the trouble is with the brilliancy of the tone rather than with the color itself. (in speaking of tints and shades of s color. Tint means a color to which shite has been added making it lighter. And shade a color to which black has been added making it darker). Analogous colors may for the same reason sometimes be offensive. This is more often the case when the deep shades like red and purple are forced into combination. But so soon as white is introduced into these colors they become more pleasing and the more whits)or in other words the lighter the tint. The more satisfactorily do colors combine which used in deeper hues are continually warring against each other. White has been found so universally to serve as s softener that it has been called the peacsmaker among the flowers. If one imagines a bouquet of red. Purple. Orange and blue. And the same bouquet of light pink. Blue violet and yellow. The part it plays is quite evident. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
