Book Description
Appeals to ''human dignity'' are at the core of many of the most contentious social and political issues of our time. But these appeals suggest different and at times even contradictory ways of understanding the term. Is dignity something we all share equally therefore the reason we all ought to be treated as equals? Or is dignity what distinguishes some greater and more admirable human beings from the rest? What notion of human dignity should inform our private judgments and our public life? In Neither Beast Nor God, Gilbert Meilaender elaborates the philosophical, social, theological, and political implications of the question of dignity, and suggests a path through the thicket. A noted theologian and a prominent voice in America's bioethics debates, Meilaender traces the ways in which notions of dignity shape societies, families, and individual lives. He incisively cuts through some of the common confusions that cloud our thinking on kehy moral and ethical questions. The dignity of humanity and the dignity of the person, he argues, are distinct but deeply connected - and only by grasping them both can we find our way to a meaningful understanding of the human condition.

Book Description
In Between God and Beast, Avraham Balaban argues that Oz's fiction has, from the outset, followed Jung's psychological theory. The major psychic processes that are depicted throughout Oz's prose are typically Jungian. For example, the treasure hunt, which is the deep structure of many of Oz's stories and novels, reflects the search for the "self" in which all the vying forces of one's psyche coexist peacefully. Oz uses many of the symbols of the treasure as well as of the self as they are presented by Jung. Many of the symbols examined in this study have never before been discussed in articles about Oz's writings. Balaban also devotes a considerable portion of his study to the religious dimension of Oz's work as well as the impact of his personal life on his writings. Balaban reveals that from the beginning Oz's work has moved in two directions: it demonstrates an unceasing effort to delve ever deeper into the dark side of consciousness while heightening the contrast between the opposing elements vying within his protagonists; and it consistently attempts to bring those oppositions to peaceful coexistence and even to a fruitful mutual relationship.

Book Description
For millennia plant and animal species have received little sustained attention as subjects of Christian theology and ethics in their own right. Focused on the human dilemma of sin and redemptive grace, theology has considered the doctrine of creation to be mainly an overture to the main drama of human being`s relationship to God. What value does the natural world have within the framework of religious belief? The crisis of biodiversity in our day, when species are going extinct at more than 1,000 times the natural rate, renders this question acutely important. Standard perspectives need to be realigned; theology needs to look out of the window, so to speak as well as in the mirror. Ask the Beasts: Darwin and the God of Love leads to the conclusion that love of the natural world is an intrinsic element of faith in God and that far from being an add-on, ecological care is at the centre of moral life.

Book Description
The United States is one of history's great Christian nations, but our unique history, success, and global impact have seduced us into believing we are something more--God's New Israel, the new order of the ages, the last best hope of mankind, a redeemer nation. Using the subtle categories that arise from biblical narrative, Between Babel and Beast analyzes how the heresy of Americanism inspired America's rise to hegemony while blinding American Christians to our failures and abuses of power. The book demonstrates that the church best serves the genuine good of the United States by training witnesses--martyr-citizens of God's Abrahamic empire.

Book Description
A number of texts in the Hebrew Bible consistently command attention and yet defy easy explanation: Why did God try to kill Moses? Why did God kill the man who touched the ark to keep it from falling? Why did God put a tree in the middle of the Garden? David Penchansky tackles these tough questions and in so doing opens up for readers a new understanding of how the Hebrew Bible portrays God. Penchansky examines six biblical narratives that depict God negatively, outlining their social, political, and theological ramifications. He believes the stories provide an important key to the Israelites' understanding of their God. He also believes the stories provide a structure for understanding experiences of evil and suffering within our own century, and for accepting the ambiguity that permeates all human existence. - Christian Book Center.

Book Description
An unforgettable collection of novellas from the author of Legends of the Fall explores the line between civilization and the “wild men.” Jim Harrison is an American master. The Beast God Forgot to Invent offers stories of culture and wildness, of men and beasts and where they overlap. A wealthy man retired to the Michigan woods narrates the tale of a younger man decivilized by brain damage. A Michigan Indian wanders Los Angeles, hobnobbing with starlets and screenwriters while he tracks an ersatz Native-American activist who stole his bearskin. An aging alpha canine, the author of three dozen throwaway biographies, eats dinner with the ex-wife of his overheated youth, and must confront the man he used to be. “Harrison’s intricate symbolism and scathing observations of urban foibles, his sly humor and vibrant language remind readers that he is one of our most talented chroniclers of the masculine psyche, intellectual or not.” —Publishers Weekly

Book Description
In the Book of the Revelation we see two mysterious signs, people will receive, the ?mark of the beast? or the ?seal of God?. The Scripture clearly tells us that those with the ?mark of the beast? will end up in the ?lake of fires with burning brimstone?. Yet those with the ?seal of God? will end up in the New Jerusalem eating from the tree of life., Revelation 12:9a, ?... that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world Revelation 13:3b, and all the world wondered after the beast.? Most all Christians are worshiping the beast today, and think that they worship the true God. I will show you their deception in the Scripture, so you will be aware of it. I will show you how you may avoid the mark of the beast, and gain the ?seal of God?. The few ages of this book deal with God's sacred name. Most of the Jews say it is too holy to use. Most of the Christians don't know it, Yet the Scriptures commands us to call on God with that name.
