These are grouped in two classes according to the relative probability of accuracy in the diagnosis. In the first group the diagnosis was founded on naked eye appearances or on touch, but the patients were discharged unrelieved from Hospital at their own request, or else left the Hospital relieved after palliative operation cases of colotomy, gastrostomy, gastro-jejunostomy).
