Retention and Disposal Schedules were approved for certain records of the Correspondence Branch, Department of Education; the Milk Control Board, Department of Agriculture; the Provincial Accounting Branch, Department of Finance; the Manitoba Youth Centre, Ministry of Corrective and Rehabilitative Services; the Financial Services Branch, Department of Colleges and University Affairs; the Civil Service Superannuation Board, Department of Labour; the Office of the Queen's Printer, Department of Consumer, Corporate and Internal Services; the Highway Transport Board, Department of Highways; the Provincial Judges Court (criminal Division) Department of attorney-general; and the Mental Health Centres, Department of Health and Social Development. Excerpt from Annual Report of the Legislative Library and Archives for 1972: Including the Reports of the Department of Health and Social Development Library, and the Director of Libraries Under the Public Libraries Act Growing use of its resources was evident in the increase in the total number of requests for information directed to the Library. The queries ranged from simple reference questions to complex problems involving research and full bibliographic documentation. The staff responded to more than reference queries in 197 2 compared to over in 1971. In addition to direct service the library supplied 374 interlibrary loan requests from other libraries in 1972 as compared with 327 in 1971; in 1972 the Library borrowed from other libraries 352 items compared to 294 in 1971. Current information reflected many significant public issues with which the federal, provincial and municipal governments are concerned and covering such diverse subjects as abortion, agricultural prices and income, community centres, day care facilities, dissemination of pornography, federal and provin cial elections, firearms control, foreign ownership and investments, govern ment ownership, housing for low-income groups, labour-management relations, mass media in politics, multiculturalism, poverty and income, Prairie Economic Council, public funds for aid to private schools, regulatory commissions, right of public employees to strike, rural depopulation, safety regulations for school buses, unemployment insurance.
