Category : Solar ponds
Languages : en
Pages : 124
Book Description
Over the last few years the use of solar energy has increased exponentially, but the problem of solar energy collection and thermal storage has arise and for this A solar pond is a simple and low cost solar energy system which collects solar radiation and stores it as a thermal energy in the same medium for a long period of time. For this reason, solar pond attracts the interest of researcher in this subject more than some other alternative solar energy system. In these ponds, saline is stored in three layers i.e. UCZ, NCZ and LCZ increasing in density.Thermal energy collected in LCZ can be utilized in various applications. Objective of the study was to design, carried out a detailed and then analyze salt gradient roof top solar pond.Effect of solar pond depth and salinity of brine solution on the temperature distribution of the pond were determined experimentally. The maximum temperature attained in the storage zone was approximately 41.7 Celsius.Cheaper and locally available construction and insulation material were use in our study. Our experimental setup studier and meant to run for years. All these comparisons have prove that our results and study are better than oth

Category : Solar collectors
Languages : en
Pages : 60
Book Description
This document describes the work performed during the first year of an analytical and experimental investigation of heat and mass extraction from a solar pond by recirculating hot brine from the storage layer through an external heat exchanger. The experimental tests and results obtained will be described later in a companion report to this one.

Experimental Investigations on Thermal Efficiency. Example of the Composite Salt Gradient Solar Pond with Dual Reflectors and Triple Layer Glass
Author: Sathish Dhandapani

Pages : 0
Book Description
Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2023 in the subject Engineering - Mechanical Engineering, Anna University (Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology), course: Mechanical Engineering, language: English, abstract: The work represented in the thesis was carried out at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, India. A laboratory-scale solar pond of hexagonal structure having a volume 0.679m3 was built for the investigation. The experiments were conducted for different arrangements viz., hexagonal pond, (i). with composite salt, E-W side reflector, and triple glass layer, (ii). with composite salt, and triple glass layer, and without E-W side reflector, and (iii). without composite salt, E-W side reflector, and triple glass layer, and the results were recorded. Periodic temperature measurements at different depths were made over a one-year period from January 2020 to December 2020. A theoretical model was also developed to predict the temperature data and the resulting equations were solved following Runge-Kutta method. The predicted values were compared with experimental results which showed good agreement. Further, the sunny area of all layers was numerically calculated to analyse the impact of wall shading. A cost analysis of the ponds was also performed to determine their economic viability.
