English is considered one of the essential skills in this fast-paced world. Taiwanese English proficiency has become increasingly important for making comprehensive global connections. Taiwan's university and college regulations require first-year students to take an English Lab Class to develop their listening and speaking skills. In most cases, students are concerned that they will make mistakes when speaking English. Several researchers have proposed integrating Corrective Feedback (CF) into the teaching process in order to resolve this dilemma. The learning process is complex, and each individual will benefit from it differently, depending on gender, race, environment, personality, and learning style. For decades, the learning style has been one of the factors that have attracted attention. However, more research needs to be conducted regarding the relationship between oral CF and the perception of students with different learning styles. The present study examines the perceptions and beliefs of students with different learning styles regarding oral CF. The study involved 501 students from ten English Lab Classes at a private university in northern Taiwan. To identify factors contributing to the relationship between learning styles and CF preferences, a mixed-methods sequential explanatory study was conducted on 501 English Lab students. Following this, six individuals were explicitly selected for qualitative case study analysis in order to explore these results in more detail. The study's results revealed no significant differences between students' learning styles and their disciplines; however, there were statistically significant differences between genders regarding learning styles. Different disciplines exhibited significant differences in terms of the types of errors to be corrected, the preferred types of oral CF, and the comprehensive questionnaire. A significant difference has been found between genders in the effectiveness of oral CF, the types of errors that should be corrected, perceptions, and the preferred oral CF types. Further analysis revealed only a negative correlation between converging learning styles and the effectiveness of oral CF preferences. The oral CF was rated positively by participants in general. Participants rated oral CF positively for its benefits, such as improving their English abilities, increasing their oral fluency, and raising their interest in English. Those who preferred explicit corrections believed that this form of correction was more precise and intuitive. In contrast, those who preferred implicit corrections believed that this form of correction provided more opportunities for reflection. By creating an environment that is supportive and encouraging, teachers can effectively provide feedback to students, and can effectively guide their students towards improved learning outcomes by actively engaging with their progress and providing oral CF on a timely and personal basis.

The purpose of this study was to identify what were Taiwanese University English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners' perceptions about learning communication strategies. This study collected qualitative data about students' beliefs and attitudes as they learned communication strategies. The research question guiding the study was: What are Taiwanese University EFL learners' perceptions about learning communication strategies? Twenty-four university students were trained for 10 weeks to use strategies in Faerch and Kasper's (1983a) taxonomy, and seven volunteers were interviewed. None of the students majored in English but were enrolled in a required Basic English course in a Freshman English Non-Majors' (FENM) program in Agriculture College at Tunghai University. In the middle and at the end of the training period, participants were interviewed and videotaped for 90 minutes. The results were displayed clearly with details in Chapter four. In Chapter five, significant themes associated with topic avoidance (1.), message abandonment (2.), meaning replacement (3.), interlanguage (4.), and cooperation (5.) strategies, mentioned by seven participants were revealed through the constant method of analysis. They were comprehension, politeness, intentionality, native language, face-saving (losing-face), interlanguage system, time-saving, and keywords. Chapter six includes a summary of this study, further discussions for the important issues mentioned by previous studies of this field and by participants of this research, and at the end, several important issues recommended as topics for further studies. The issues suggested to readers for future researches were variables in the learners and trainers, students' acceptance level of non-native like language, training pedagogies, the relationship between English proficiency and using strategy, the correlation between gender and strategy, communication strategy in a working situation, and examples through the interlanguage strategy.

English is the most widely used language across countries and the importance of acquiring English proficiency is considerably high in most of the Asian countries. Nowadays, to enhance students' English abilities and to improve L2 learning uptake, more and more educators take into account not only the styles of teaching, but also try to find extra support through examining mental abilities and psychological aspects of their students. The present study aimed at finding out whether there were any relationship between Corrective Feedback and students' personality traits. If yes, were there any special traits which had benefited more from a treatment with a particular type of CF (Explicit or Implicit type of CF). A total of 65 students and one teacher participated in the study. These students were formed by taking an English Lab class (Speaking and Listening). This study lasted for one semester. To examine the progress of two groups with different types of CF provided, a pre-and post-tests were held. Also, the five-factor model of personality (Big 5) elaborated by McCrae and Costa (1992) was implemented to see and examine if participants' mental and psychological aspects can influence on their preference for a particular type of the CF, and how people with a particular trait from Big 5 react on the provided CF. Furthermore, a questionnaire about L2 learners' beliefs about CF was collected from both groups to explore how they view and feel it from their perspective. Results have shown that the students from both groups, Explicit CF and Implicit CF, made improvements on their post-tests. According to the findings, most of the students agreed that Corrective Feedback (both types) was important for them. The finding in this small scale study was in agreement with the investigation of Banaruee and Khoshsima (2017) whose results of a pre-test and a post-test showed that while explicit corrective feedback is more effective for extroverts, implicit feedback produces better results for introverts. It was also noticed that students whose level of Extraversion was approximately 50 or less percent, slightly disagree with being provided a direct (explicit) CF from a teacher during the class. However, what was found out more, the mentioned students still had improved their post-test results. Regardless of the small size of the present study, it was found that students who scored lower (less than 50%) in dimensions like Extraversion, Conscientiousness sometimes needed to be noticed and heard. Despite the advantages that came along with providing CF, there were still some difficulties and challenges which needed to be overcome in order to improve the effects of this kind of treatment.

The study used qualitative study using literature review as methodology and described in-depth the conceptual philosophy, study strategy, data collecting procedure and techniques, strengths and limitations and ethical issues that were taken into consideration. There are different research philosophies that governed the study with qualitative research including ontology and epistemology. The research reported and discussed the cultural trends and the attitudes as well as approaches that Chinese college students had to their studies. The study also found out that Chinese college students used the major learning styles of rote, silent and passive. The study found that personality traits associated with students have a significant influence on the success of learning English as a second language.
