Wood, Thomas. An Institute of the Laws of England; or, The Laws of England in Their Natural Order, According to Common Use. London: Printed by W. Strahan and M. Woodfall, 1772. Folio. [ii], x, 657, [40] pp. Reprinted 2006 by The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. ISBN-13: 978-1-58477-588-1. ISBN-10: 1-58477-588-2. Cloth. $250.* Reprint of the tenth and final edition. Wood's Institute was the only treatise, until the publication of Blackstone's Commentaries, to furnish a comprehensive view of the common law. It was "the most important and the most popular of his books. It was written, he tells us, to supply the want of a methodical book on English law, which could be put into the hands of students in the Inns of Court and the Universities." Holdsworth, HEL XII:419. Blackstone recognized the books considerable merits. "Upon the whole," he said, "his work is undoubtedly a valuable performance; and great are the obligations of the student to him, and his predecessor Finch, for their happy progress in reducing the elements of law from their former chaos to a regular methodical science."

Book Description
The volume The Spectacle of the Body in Late Medieval England represents a study on the human body representation in medieval England by approaching the concept of the spectacle as a space of manifestation. The author clarifies the ways of understanding the body as a physical and metaphorical reality, but also the medieval conceptualization of violence. On top of that, the author is making an investigation on the violent character of spectacles' representation in pursuit of picturing this subject more clearly and more relevant. The approach of the volume is dominantly Christian reviewing the representations of the body through outstanding figures of Christianity (crucifixion of Jesus Christ, body of Virgin Mary).

Book Description
A comprehensive account of English legal thought in the age of Blackstone and Bentham for nearly a century, The Province of Legislation Determined advances an ambitious reinterpretation of eighteenth-century attitudes to social change and law reform. Professor Lieberman's bold synthesis rests on a wide survey of legal materials and on a detailed discussion of Blackstone's Commentaries, the jurisprudence of Lord Kames and the Scottish Enlightenment, the chief justiceship of Lord Mansfield, the penal theories of Eden and Romilly, and the legislative science of Jeremy Bentham. The study relates legal developments to the broader fabric of eighteenth-century social and political theory, and offers a novel assessment of the character of the common law tradition and of Bentham's contribution to the ideology of reform.
